Right up front, I'm going to plead guilty to extreme stupidity.:(

I'm begin transferred to Germany, and have planned all along to bring my low mileage, paid off, creme puff Touring with me, in spite of the expenses and complications involved. It's mine outright, I don't believe anyone in the US is going to pay me what it's worth (to me anyway), and it has a stick, which I wanted in the first place. I just ASSumed that I could swap the taillights (which have red turn signals, I believe not allowed in Germany) with German ones (nice and yellow, like God intended). I can get any number of replacement parts off eBay in Germany, but it appears I have far bigger problems that that.

I now realize that the reason I have red turn signals is because the system is wired with two wires, without a separate wire for stop lights and turn signals, so it does not appear that this is either easy, or maybe even possible. Can anyone comment on my situation? Is there a solution?

The car is due to be shipped on May 15th, so I would surely appreciate some advice as soon as possible.

Many Thanks!

Gary

If you are US Mil you don't have to convert your taillights. Your car has to pass a safety cnducted by the US mil authorities and you will get US plates.

Well the part numbers for the LCM are the same for the european and american versions of the car so either, the wiring is there and needs reconfiguring or the harness from the LCM the Lights is different. My guess is that the LCM has an output for each version so it may be as simple as relocating a terminal from one location to another at the LCM harness plug.

That's a simple fix....go to an indy and have your CPU flashed to have euro specs....Tyrone from bimmerfest flashed mine for 40 bucks.

Joe to the rescue...very nice to know that there is a software fix.

I noticed the thread with Willis 4sale...made me sad but happy that you found such a beautiful replacement.

Are you guys saying that, if I get the CPU flashed, then I should just be able to replace the lights?

God, I don't even want to hope!!!!!!

I think I might just sleep good tonight!

lol...yeah doc tyrone had a usb based obdii tool that he connected to his laptop. i told him what i wanted. he also did some programming where my high beams would activate without my fogs deactivate. he also did some tinkering on how my windows can roll up and down with just my key remote and also has my doors lock automatically when my car starts running (which is an option that wasn't available for pre 00 models).

so i'm sure an indy in ur area can do it for u! =)
