Well I think I just broke the cable trying to open my hood so it will not release anymore. Can't open the hood. Any emergency way to get the pins to release so I can unlatch the hood? Or is there any way I can take the kidney vents off to try and get to the cable that way? I already took the handle off from inside the cabin and pulled on the wire, however, it feels like it's not connected anymore and if I wanted to keep pulling it would just come all the way out. Any help would be great before I take it to the dealership to see if they can fix it.

Thanks everyone

Probably have to break one of your grills to fetch the end of the cable at the latch assembly.

Thanks all. Do you think it would be cheaper to break one of the grills, replace a grill and the cable or just take it to a shop to repair?

I think you can push out/pull out the kidney grill without breaking it.

theres a little thing by the oil filter that usually breaks. once you get the hood open look in there and see if the cable has seperated.

Yeah, my hood was a little stickey and I messed with that. After it wouldn't open and I broke the cable... :grenade

How much do you think a dealer would charge me for a new cable and labor? Also, What are some other shopes that may work on bimmers (that may be cheaper)?

^^
Answer is $260 labor and parts... and thats just for the cable. They said there's two cables and if the other's broke it will be more. Well, we'll know tomorrow the damage.

Thanks again everyone for the input.

wellllllllllll... typical of BMW they changed my original quote of 260 to 800!!!!
I took all the parts (3 boden cables and 2 latches) that were $130 and then I called a collision shop and they did the job for $450. They said it was very difficult... I saved 220 so its all good. according to the paperwork it looks like they took out both grills and both headlamps... then they were able to pop the hood, replace all the parts, realign the hood. I dropped it off yesterday evening and picked it up today at 3pm. I am soooo happy this is over. Now I just need some answers to my other post :buttrock

Thanks for the update. Yeah that is exactly what I was expecting. When I called this morning they gave me the same low estimate of $265. After thinking about it for five minutes I realized there is no way they will fix this whole problem for that amount. My appointment is next week. I'm going to follow thru and see if I can get the hood popped and cable fixed for that amount. Then I can replace the latches and front cable myself.

How could they change your estimate without opening the hood to see what else was damaged???

not sure how they could do that but they did. I have never worked with a bimmer dealership before and probably never will again after this..
