gumbi4u 04-12-2008, 08:50 PM Those wheels look sicker in person. I kid you not!!! BTW right now im sorting through 210 pics of the meet. Im trying to figure out how Im going to put it in a format that I can express what I was feeling at the time. It will be another epic thread. Stay tuned. It will go live tonight!

bimmerfiver 04-12-2008, 09:15 PM My pleasure, the car looked great, very clean. Kaptom's paint had minor swirls (he uses a local car wash that uses quality hand method, but I cringe at the thought of anyone touching my car but me) lacked shine, but he takes great care of his stuff (and garages the car too). The scratch that was on his trunk deck was 90% eliminated.
Detail day was indeed a day, 12 hours of cleaning. Gumbiu's car came around as did Martin's 2000, 911 Porsche. All three cars were lighter shades of silver. Gumbiu's paint had major swirls (cough, from poor car washing techniques :D ) and Martin's 911 went from fairly clean to showroom.
Detail 411/911:
1). Wash car with P21S auto shampoo and australian wool mit.
2). Dry with P21S chamois.
3). Clay with Pinnacle Ultra Poly.
4). Wheels are simply scrubbed with soap and a soft brush.
5). DeWalt Rotary at 1K rpm using a Green Edge 2000 wool pad and Meguiar's # 83 Polish.
6). Wipe paint down with detail spray and inspect.
DeWalt Rotary at 1600 rpm using Blue Edge 2000 wool pads and Poor Boy's SSR1 polish.
7). Wipe down entire car, then Wax with Pinnacle Liquid Souveran.
8). Buff paint, then Wax again with S100.
9). Buff paint, then Spray Wax with Poor Boys Quick Wax.
10). Buff paint and then spray with DP Surface Shield Paint Sealant.
11). Gummi Pflege all door seals, rubber trim and window seals.
12). Klasse rubber care to the tires.
13). Wheel wax.
14). BMW Leather Care Lotion to all seats.
15). BMW Fabric Cleaner to A-Pillars, side and rear pillars. Remove all stains.
16). BMW Vinyl Care spray to interior doors, dash and center console.
17). Vinylex Blue for all wood trim.
18). All door hinges sprayed/cleaned with Wurth lubricant spray, then greased with White Lithium spray.
19). Simichrome polish tailpipes.
20). Einszett Glass Polish to front windshield and headlights.
21). One more spray to paint of DP Paint Shield.
I highly recommend folks out there purchase a rotary, get the hang of it and become a paint Jedi. A Porter Cable or Ultimate Detailing Machine might be a better way to start.

The Job, and cars came out looking awesome in the other thead. Looks like it was alot of fun. Well at least for the guys who were the assistants; LOL.
I dont detail professionally, but I do work on my own cars, and for friends/family as well for fun.
I just had a question/comment about the order of the steps you listed.
Everything I learned over on autopia, detail city, and others is that sealants need to go directly onto clean paint in order to properly set up. Guys looking for some extra pop use a carnauba on top of a sealant, but if you do it the other way, the sealant wont bond properly with the paint due to the oils in the carnauba.
Ideally the DP paint shield should be used right after the SSR 1 for protection, followed by a carnauba on top for some extra bling. Also you'd probably get more out of several successive layers of DP shield than you would out of multiple layers of different carnauba's.
Either way; really nice job. :alright

None of the three cars that was detailed were to my complete satisfaction when it came to the wax. Why? You can see in the pics it was either raining, drizzling or extremely humid. All three owners were asked to throw on another coat of wax.
Perhaps 95% of the work (or more) is accomplished by the wheel and two grades of polish. Wax? It's so easy Gumbi could do it. :D
A different spray I had as well was Poor Boys, used throughout the process too. You can feel the paint 'skin up' and I don't believe a spray like DP Shield offers a huge, massive benefit. It helps, but the real work is not coming from that 16oz spray bottle. Time was a huge factor.
So yes, the DP was after SSR1, then carnaubas (S100 or Pinnacle Souveran liquid). I would have liked to use my Wolfgang Sealant (the best) but it needs curing time and we had none.
Paintballistic 04-13-2008, 12:47 PM great looking car and the rims go well with the silver!:buttrock
xxpanipuri 04-13-2008, 01:14 PM love the wheels
and also what is the advantage of using wool pads over foam pads?
is it better/worse/same?

Thanx for the follow up. I can see the conditions were definitely less than ideal, but you did a great job nonetheless.
I just received my order of Menzerna Super Intensive polish, and Nano Polish to replace my SSR 2.5, and 1. Everyone raves about them, especially with German clears, so I had to try them out.
I'm just waiting for some nice weather, and more importantly some free time to do my car and the wifes.
The plan is for a claying, SIP, Nano, Klasse AIO, and then a few layers of either 4 star Ultimate paint protection, or Ultima over a few days.
Nice job once again, you most have been sore after all that; I'm wiped out after a full detail on just one car.
Mr Hyde 04-13-2008, 02:39 PM love the wheels

Wool is just more aggressive than the foam. Its allows more correction. At the same time, if not used properly, especially on a rotary, it can also do a little damage.

I was completely sore. I was up at 5am, conference call while driving to NJ for 1.75 hours. Arrive at 9:45am and begin Gumbi's car at 10:00am. Doing three cars in one day is one car too much, we finished at 10:15pm. If you look at the other thread Gumbi started (with pics galore) look at the first few pics of products...on top of the cardboard box on the back, right corner you'll see my Menzerna SIP and Nano Polish in stock. I have to say, I really like Meguiar's # 83...when used with a rotary, the Green Wool Edge Pad, it needs patience, time on each section, but, zing...all major swirls are eliminated and a nice shine is left behind. The 83 works very, very well.
I stock all of the Edge 2000 foam pads too, but I seem to prefer wool, it's what I grew up using.
Personally I would've used sealants on all of their cars, the light silvers didn't have a lot of metallic in the paint. My sterling gray paint, I prefer the carnauba as it creates the softer shine, allowing the metallic to be appreciated moreso, imho.
Mr Hyde 04-13-2008, 05:41 PM Dont say that, my wife will kill me if I buy any more stuff; although my AIO stash is running low.......Alot of people like to follow with #80, do you like the SSR 1 better?
How do you like the SIP & Nano vs the SSR 2.5 & 1 combos? Hopefully its worth it; that stuff's expensive. I'm going to pick & choose when I use the Menzerna stuff, otherwise its the Poorboys for everything else.
flipppalot 04-16-2008, 12:36 AM Can someone put me down next detail day.
