Any tricks on how to do this easily?

I've got the two bolts that attach near the differential loose, but the bolts won't come out all the way because they are hitting the differential. I read in another section that you didn't need to drop the subframe, so I figured it would be easy.

Any help is greatly appreciated; car is on jackstands till I can figure this out. haha

Thanks in advance.

I am unsure if you are taking out the correct bolts. The front bolt and rear bolts are not oriented to "hit" the diff during removal. Check out a bentley for pics or realoem.com

Quick Procedure FYI

Remove bolts that attach to driveshaft (some maybe can get away without doing this)
Remove Front Diff Bolt
Remove Rear Swaybar
Remove Rear Diff Bolts
Slide/TUG Diff back a bit
You now have access to the inner bolts that hold on the camber arms
Remove/Replace

Sounds simple....might take an extra set of hands

You do not need to remove the subframe. the balance of lifting the trailing arm a bit when you Remove/Replace the outer mounting tab/point can sometimes take a few minutes.

Best of Luck!!

I've got the inner bolts lose and the nut off. I can't get the outters off even with an impact wrench.

The inner bolts on the LCAs are a real bitch to get out/in. You'll have to disconnect the driveshaft, remove the front diff bolt and loosen or remove the rear diff bolts. Then you'll have to move the diff rearward and to each side to get clearance for the LCA bolts. You may have to get the sway bar outta there for more room. Depends. It can be done alone but sure helps if you have a helper to move the diff and keep it from falling out. A pry bar is your friend. Lotsa wiggling and prodding.

I should specify, the inner bolts are hitting the axles and will not come out, but are lose and the nut has fallen off, so they wiggle around.

You are probably taking the wrong bolts out (Possibly the subframe bolts)- have you visited realoem.com?

Take a look if this link works - http://www.realoem.com/bmw/showparts.do?model=BG93&mospid=47488&btnr=33_0371&hg=33&fg=10

You should be taking out #13 x 2 and #16

No I am not taking out the wrong bolts. :rofl2 :rofl

I got them out by moving the differential around. Almost there....

First time I did it took me an hour of wiggling and cursing with the pry bar.. the 2nd time it was much much easier, just remove the 3 diff bolts, no need to touch the driveshaft.. it helps to have a floor jack under the diff to help you tilt it up a little while you work it with the pry bar.. it doesn't look like there's enough room but trust me the bolts can come out :)

Yea I am all set with the inner bolts, there is just one outer bolt on the drivers side that is frozen. I have the passenger side all set, this side is killing me. :mad

this is perfect... I will be doing this to my M3 when I'm home on leave... GREAT info...

SPC adjustable rear trailiing arms, here I come.... while I'm doing this... any thoughts on how difficult the rear subframe bushings are?

I had the same problem how did you move the diff around. I was the one who had the AA ones break. I just pried mine out and luckily didn't bend or screw the threads. Im still waiting on the UUC arms.

I just spent several "sessions" of straining and cursing trying to get the outboard bolts on my LCA's out. What a bitch! It took liberal amounts of PB Blaster, and finally a propane torch applied to the nut to expand it somewhat so that I could muster enough brute force to break it loose. Good luck!
