for those of you using tire trailers,

i picked up a hitch at a junk yard today, it looks like it might be a factory part for a bike rack or something along those lines. my question is can this work for pulling a tire trailer on a 1 7/8" ball.

it uses 4 bolts on the rear surface of the wheel well, and 4 on the bottom surface along with an extra bar to add 2 more bolts on the bottom. the question in my mind isn't as much strength in the bolts, as the face that the receiver is a smaller square hole then you see on a truck hitch.

what do you guys think?
Thanks for the help ;)

Sounds like the standard trailer hitch that most of us use. Some have said it will distort the spare tire housing some, but I've had no issues pulling my 4x8 trailer, even with a 1000 lbs of drywall on it.

I just put on the Curt Hitch 11177 for my tire trailer on my e36 M3. It was ~ 150$ with shipping. Just google this and options will come up. It bolts to the spare tire well. Some have reported tearing issues at attachment sites. I tried to reinforce some of the sites with strips of metal to spread out the load. We'll see how well it works over time.
