View Full Version : Finally got the car out of the body shop...M Technic content

Well, the car is 90% done.

I still have to bring it back on Tuesday to get the Euro trim for the right side, the duct next to the passenger fog, and the passenger fog itself.

There is still a bit of overspray on the windshield cowl. I can get that off. The fender looks pretty good, a little bright if you're really looking but hey, it's white, it's a biotch to color-match. The front bumper is still a mystery, as the fitment is off. Note the headlamp washers: It's a Euro bumper, so it's got the Euro reinforcement which isn't playing well with anything else. At least, that's the final conclusion we came to. They also didn't put the trim back correctly in the rear bumper area...they didn't do it in the correct order, the rear piece needed to go on first. Oh well, they can deal with it later.

In the end, the bodyshop hates me for caring about my car, and I'm pissed at the bodyshop for trying to screw me out of trim and foglights and trying to pass off relatively shoddy work as okay. In the end, it cost them more, which I'm okay with. :rofl

I know...next on the list. Hopefully August, probably later. Depends on how much I make the summer.

It's really not bad in person. People like to say wheels before drop, but if it's a modest wheel I beg to differ...

Niiiiice, can't wait to see it in person. I can barely see some of the issues we talked about on the phone. The front bumper boggles me, I'd like to see it in person. The rear I think we'll figure out quickly.

If you decide to give it a drop sometime this summer let me know. We could seriously swap all four corners in a night.

04-11-2008, 10:08 PM
Thanks guys!

Mac: The issues are there and I have no idea of what to do. To be honest, it's really not that bad. There is however a nice new chip on my driver's fender that wasn't there when it went into the shop. I'm not even going to mention it, I have no proof it was their fault...

I may be down for suspension. The biggest thing is I need a front end rebuild (with the exception of LCABs).

Then the Vogts/(hopefully Konis)/and camber kit go in. I'll order that stuff in a few months when I have nil CC debt...

Damn, that looks amazing! I wish someone would hit my car :(. It needs new paint & Mtech stuff too. Yours will be absolutely perfect once it's dropped.

the no contrast (all white on the kit) is sweet. where did you get the bumpers from? the euro front is an awesome pickup. are the headlight washers functional?

Even without the drop, such a clean and amazing car. So mature and humble looking, white wide grille, Mtech and style 5's make a great combo.

Vogtland/Koni eh? That's my ideal setup! I might consider a LowTec kit though, but you should looooooove that drop and that ride!

Looks great, congrats again.

Thanks for the comments, a drop is definitely next. I'm glad I don't have one right now, as I'm still learning to not pull up too far when I park, and watching for steep driveways.

About the MTech popping out more, I'm not sure I've ever thought that. It's relatively aggresive (especially compared to the E36 bumper).

I think mine pops as much as a factory bumper on a 5-series should be expected too. I think it does have a bit more "verve" as it's monochromatic.

The all-Alpine brings out every little detail on that bumper, it's pretty neat.

Will you be attending Little 5??

No dice, I had to work today. Just got back.

I saw your car on College next to the Motor Inn or whatever it's called...looked good. Much better tint.

Check yourself into a mental clinic. ;) Or an optometrist. :stickoutt

That's the first I've heard of that. I really really really HATE the non-M bumper unless there's a Euro plate. The black plastic front plate mount is far too bulky and ungraceful. I also don't like the wide expanse of black plastic between the fogs.

In general, it was far too unaggressive.

My backup plan was 540 ducts, Euro plate, and painted tow hook covers. Glad I didn't have to do that.

Denton,

Looks good but I think you might have a bit too much going on. My advise would be to shave the turn signal lights on the fenders that are behind the wheels, and remove the headlight washer jets (I think thats what they are). Either remove these distractions or take off the roof racks.

Otherwise verah nice

I do agree that there is a lot going on.

The sidemarkers are on of my favorite features. :) I love them, they stay. The best solution would be to rig up '97+ E36 sidemarkers but the hole is a bit different...I don't want anymore bodywork.

The headlight washers are unable to be removed. There would be a gaping hole, and the bodyshop didn't want (or know how?) to fill it. I also really like the look of those; purposeful, like the rack.

The rack I love, but I may take it off and see how it looks without it. I actually like the look but I know what you mean.

It's actually pretty light...couldn't be more than 10 lbs.

What's the rack for? Take a closer look at my license plate...I'm a cyclist. I like the look with the rack on. Note that I do take off my bike attachments.
