A few days ago my dauthers seatting in the rear seats complained about being cold. I was warm and the front vents were getting warm air. Trying to adjust the rear vent, at the end of the center console, I realized that it was blowing just cold air, probably as cold as the air outside. Do these vents have a separate heater element, which might be broken? I thought all the vents are connected to the air box inside the instrument panel. Any help will be appreciated.

If I remember correctly, that is just simply a fresh air vent. Just close it so no air at all comes out.

Uh oh man, I hope you're sitting down, you need a new rear heating element. Unfortunately it's an expensive unit and difficult repair, usually costing $1400 and up at an indy, you don't even want to think about taking it to the stealer.

Just kidding man, like it's been said, it's just an outside air vent. Close it and don't worry about it.
