hey guys im new to this site and i just bought a 1990 535i, it has nice sound for nearly 20 yr old speakers, however it only has the stock cassette deck, i was wondering if it would be cheaper to buy an ipod integration kit of some sort, or if i should just buy like a sony xplod head unit with an auxiliary input so i can listen to my ipod

any suggestions are helpful,
thanks

I upgraded mine to the CD43 unit that comes in newer BMW's. I also beefed it up with the DICE Ipod integration kit.

It has a few errors with it but there is a huge support group for the setup. Check out EAS in the sponsor section above.

I can control my ipod through my touchscreen while it charges it. I've had absolutely no problems. I have an iva-d105

so a head unit works fine?
i also heard that bmws dont just plug and play with head units because of the amps and stuff, is this true? if so what would i need to buy?

Can you expand on what errors you had? didnt know they had a dice kit compatible with the CD43

I bought a Kenwood head unit and purchased the Kenwood Ipod adapter. I can plug my IPhone to it. I can play music, still make calls by putting it on speakerphone and text.

~$400 for both systems. You can find a new CD43 on ebay for ~200 all day long. Direct bolt up to the later e34 models. If you have an older wiring e34 there are DIY's for getting it to work.

It only seems to be an issue for the late e34 models. The head unit will just switch over to FM and won't let you switch back to the ipod for anywhere from 5 seconds to 10 minutes to your whole drive to work, etc.

Other than the occasional mess-up, I LOVE the setup. Full ipod control through the sleek design of a BMW head unit.
