This is not as extensive as a build as the car was first built by James Clay and Barry Battle back in 2001. It started life as an ITS/KP car and quickly transformed into a JP car with the addition of AP brakes, wing, ABS reinstalled and 17x9 wheels. This is my fathers car and use to have a 2.5 in it from Stickley. It was pretty basic with S50 cams and KK exhaust with custom tuning. He has decided to play in IP this coming season and has a new 3.2 waiting for him at Chucks place. The 3.2 will use sunbelts, stock bottom end and remus headers with a 3" exhaust all the way back I fabricated. Expect it to be in the 270-280 range based on other IP motors Chuck has done. 2 weekends ago I had the motor pulled in 3-4 hours and ready for the new powerplant. While the motor is out, I will repaint the engine bay, install an AIM XG Log digital dash and data acq system and refinish the valve cover for the S52. Here are some quick pics from the garage as she sits now. More to follow this weekend as we pick up the S52 and start bolting on the accessories.

That is the plan so far. Check your PM as well Vince. I picked up a PLX wideband today and got it installed. It was super easy and is a quality piece. Always nice to monitor A/Fs in case a fuel filter becomes clogged or fuel line cut. Also got the bracket secured to the dash which holds the AIM XG Log. Just needs power, ground and RPM pickup and is ready. Also finished the valve cover in a texture black paint which I baked in the oven for 45mins at 160. Came out super clean. More to follow as S52 gets fully dressed with accessories.

Got the engine bay repainted today using rustoleum brush on paint. I used regal red and thinned it with naphtha as it speeds up the drying time of the oil based paint. Came out very nice and all the brush marks disappeared when dry. AIM dash is also wired in. Just needs the motor and the wiring harness and she'll be ready.

I never would have thought to reduce a brush-on paint. Good idea when you don't want to break out the gun.

Exactly. I have a spray gun I could have used but with all the masking, covering and cleaning, brush on was the choice for this project. If the car was acid dipped, spray on would be the choice. This was just a re-coat.

When I hear naphtha, I think of way old RPGs and a semi-old, very gay fat and skinny guys refinishing furniture. Anyone with me?

Curious for more cage pics. Thx.

Finally picked the S52 motor up today and after getting the flywheel, clutch,pp and trans installed, I lowered in her. She's bolted down and just needs the wiring harness and intake manifold buttoned up. Also snapped a picture of the cage. Its a basic 6+2 prepared cage which goes to the bulkhead and not the rear towers as shown. Hope to have it fired up by the weekend.

The motor is all buttoned up and starts right up. Just primed the oil system first with the ECU disconnected to prevent excessive dry startup. Here are 2 pictures of the motor all buttoned up. Just need to configure the dash for the sensors and display desired and its race ready.
