Hi all,

I have a '93 850I and there's plenty of oil leaking out of the centre of the rear axle! :nono

Has anyone had this experience?

I'm not sure what to do - should I replace it? Does anyone know where I could get a rear axle?

I would be eternally grateful for any help from you 'experienced' ones!

Thanks very much in advance.

If out the back, the rear cover is a gasket, and you have seals on the pinion shaft (going towards the front of the car) and output shafts (going out either side of the big thing in the middle) If this has been happening awhile fluid is low and you will fry the differential pretty quick by driving the car, and if you do THEN is when you will replace it. Right now it sounds like it could do with a rebuild, of which Gerry here can help you at Phoenix as he's across the pond as well, and while you're at it upgrade to a LSD (limited slip differential) while you're at it. Here in the US that job is around $1700US excluding labour to remove/install. (keep clicking thumbnails to blow up how you want)

hello

Best to change oil seals and refill with correct oil and check fpr play.

Good luck
