View Full Version : Broken DEPO corner light tabs
M3 PHANTOM 04-08-2008, 07:46 PM I broke the top rail like tab to one of my DEPO headlights and also broke the tab in the middle that clicks in with the corner light. Right now it will not stay in at all and i had to put electrical tape around the corner light for it to stay in, luckily i have cosmos so it kind of blends in but i want it fixed better than tape. Any ideas on how to get the corner to stay in nice and tight ?? I did search and saw people used zip ties, could anyone explain that method in depth ?:help
svginferno 04-09-2008, 12:38 AM the same thing happened to me :(. what i did was used some double sided tape for a temporary fix, but plan on putting some JB weld on it, but i don't think that will be a good idea since it'll make it very hard to take out the headlights as the corner light might have to be broken off. my corner light fell off at 140MPH =\, but i fixed it as soon as i could. good luck!

Drill two holes into the corner light and then either wrap the ziptie around something solid or drill into the headlight housing itself and wrap the zip tie through.
Orrrrrr
Get new headlight. :)
M3 PHANTOM 04-09-2008, 09:24 PM there is no way i am getting new headlights because a little broken tab, they are BRAND NEW :eyecrazy
I guess ill attempt the zip tie method since that seems to be the best method ive seen yet
anyone else have any ways of getting it to stay in at the same time looking as if it wasnt broken in the first place??
the tape is so ghetto:shifty
JBURGS47 04-09-2008, 09:29 PM zip ties will never work and hold properly. Get everything wired and done, then apply a thick coating of silicone gasket maker to the 3 edges of the corner light. Slide the corner in, let dry. It may be easier for you if you actually break all the tabs. That's what I did, it looks and works perfectly.
pbonsalb 04-09-2008, 09:31 PM Depo corner lights are $25 a set. They will also break. Try the higher quality aftermarket $40 set. I think someone in the classifieds group buy sells them. I have broken 2 Depos now -- not worth the cheapness. The headlights seem fine -- I have not broken those.

I think your silicone gasket way is even more ghetto than the zip tie method. I've heard of people do some silly things, but never silicone gasket.
BUT! Hey, as long as it works.
I did it the baller way. Bought a new headlight. :stickoutt
M3 PHANTOM 04-09-2008, 10:56 PM hmm maybe some industrial double sided tape ?
ehh electrical tape is fine till the weekend and ill experiment
so pissed that the freaking tab broke in the first place !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1:mad
cxt9597 04-09-2008, 10:58 PM zip tie to the metal rail above it. that works way better than anything else.

hmmm, i think the suggested zip tie method to the "metal rail", which i think is the radiator support(?) is not so great if the railing on the headlight is gone. yeah, the tape is ghetto, but it does the trick for now, not proud of it. if you didn't break both rails on the headlight housing, i'd recommend just getting a new corner light, and use a zip tie through the plastic part you clamp to remove the signal bulb to the radiator support, since that plastic part has some holes. good luck, hope drilling into the headlight works.
M3 PHANTOM 04-10-2008, 09:28 PM I just had a great idea, industrial strength Velcro, how do you guys think this will work?
svginferno 04-11-2008, 11:49 PM hmmm...it sounds like a good idea, my worry though is that you need a healthy amount of area for the signal housing to connect to the headlight housing and there is a gap that needs to be filled. from what i recall the headlight and corner light only contact a bit where it's not going to be apparently visible if you put the velcro.
i have another idea, maybe you could take a chunk of styrofoam and contour the two sides so that it fits w/ the signal housing and headlight housing, cut a cylinder or rectangular prism out of one end and glue one end to each side, then...when you put it on, it shouldn't move much or at all if done properly, theoretically , haha...
pics please if you go w/ the velcro :)
M3 PHANTOM 04-12-2008, 12:27 AM i went with the Velcro but it just does not look as good as the other side, its nut flush..theres a big gap in between the headlight and the corner lights. so im trying to sell my old headlights than sell the ones i have now with the broken tab see what i can get for them and with the combined money buy a new set. ugghh pisses me off that small little tab throws off everything. velcro isnt visible though i hid it pretty good and it serves good as a temporary fix, or permanent fix if you dont mind the gap, ill take pics tommrow and post them up
