If we're gonna do a GB on a CF hood...lets make it actually worth it...ya know...like...light weight. I've seen far too many VIS hoods lately that are just plain heavy. I'd be in depending on weight, style, and final cost.

Cool, the list is getting longer! Would the majority prefer vented or non-vented? I already found a source and working out the pricing for you guys! I just need to know how many vented and non-vented hoods u guys would like. According to my supplier, the hoods will come as early as May.

As for your concerns on details, I will be going to Carbon 8 whom have been very consistent with the fitment and weight value on our on stock e39, e90, and e92 hoods. For example, the e39 hood OEM weighs around 60 lbs. The Carbon 8 Hood is 25.74lbs. For proof of fitment, here are some pictures which a board member here posted:

Yes on ebay they are $540 shipped for OEM style VIS. This GB price will beat that.

Well the OEM style will look OEM lol, and the vented could look like VIS vented, or Seibon vented. I also think Carbon 8 might have a vented style, but we will have to wait for those pictures. :(

As I stated previously, these hoods are going to be made especially for us with new molding tools. The best pictures I'll be able to provide are hoods uninstalled. To ask me if I can get installed pictures, I will have to have a photo session done by me (since I don't like borrowing other people's installed images). For that to happen, I will need one of the hoods shipped to me which would delay the whole process. The manufacturer has given me a fitment guarantee though.

I guess another alternative is when I get a better resolution picture, someone can photoshop the hood onto a e36 sample.

Unfortunately, I'm not handy with the spray gun. Ask me how to do cooling system overhauls, tranny fluid flushing, but I leave clearcoating and anything in relation to paint work to the pros.

I will ask my local body shop though so I will have to get back with you on that question! :thumbup:

Hello Vic, Can you tell me some of the features of the carbon hood such as does it have a skeleton such as the seibon hood? Is the carbon fibre A or AA rated? Are hood pins required? How wood you rate your hoods to VIS or Seibon Hoods. Im going to buy a carbon fibre hood, I just want to buy the best quality hood available. Let me show you how the E39 hood is manufactured which the same process as how the E36 CF Hoods will be made.

The carbon used in all their hoods are high quality grade. As seen on this picture below.

Hood pins can be used for aesthetics, but your OEM latches and shocks can do the job already. We didn't have to soften the OEM shocks on this E39.

Come on guys, out of the 40ish people who put their names down, im the only one who came through, and has sent the deposit? :eek: These hoods are a steal at these prices.

No offense to the vendor, but even though the hood fits great on the e39 model, it does not necessary means that the e36 hood would fit perfectly like that as well. Especially if the hood has not been made yet.

I'd be feeling the same way too. I only gave the e39 fitment as an example which also is in conjuncture to the fitment quality of the e90 and e92 CF hoods we currently have in stock. And for the record, the hood has been made before but with an older set of molding tools. The hoods were going to provide you are coming from a newer set of molding tools which actually will be more precise than its predecessor. Anyway, for those interested in the OE Style hood, I finally got pictures from the manufacturer. Here they are:

I hope these pictures will clear your doubts about how they line up with the fenders. Now as a disclaimer I must state that even though these pictures show great fitment, the hood should be installed professionally. The skeletons of these hoods may be molded perfectly, the CF overlay is certainly hand laid. Minor modifications might be needed. I was also told by the manufacturer that several layers of gelcoat is done to these hoods. From personal experience, I would still would want these hoods clearcoated at least 3 times.

Now for vented imaging, the manufacturer gave me this watermarked image.

They said that this hood uses the same skeleton molding as the OE style hood so fitment would be great as well. Carbon 8 is a US sales/importing team for GSI Tuning which is the manufacturer. They've looked everywhere for actual installed pics. Unfortunately, they couldn't find any since their database is so widespread.

How many miles do you have on your car? It all depends on the mileage. Well from previous experience, what you'll only for a cooling overhaul is around $500 which includes OEM parts from Behr and the likes. If you feel that eminent doom is around the corner for your cooling system, I would sadly have to suggest to you that preventative maintenance comes first in my books. I'd rather have a healthy running car than one that looks good but is crappy in the inside.

well from how the rest of the guys on this GB is progressing...i don't think there will be an ETA...euro dyne gave em choices unfortunately most of the guys who signed up weren't committed.

the guys at euro dyne eventually will be bringing some in for sure but not with that insane price.

as stated in previous posts, it'll be made by carbon 8 like mine. molding process and delivery stateside wouldve been 6 weeks. that's how long it took me.

I understand your concerns Sir. The $100 non-refundable deposit is to show commitment once I place the order for the hoods. It's only non-refundable when the hoods are in production. For example, if only 6 people sign up and make a deposit, obviously that's not a big enough number to initiate the production call. I would then return the $100 to each respective depositor since I haven't placed the order yet. I hope that clears out things for you guys.

No need for hood pins and the design of the hoods are intended to use the factory hood springs, shocks, and brackets.

Carbon 8 is producing the hoods for us as we speak. We should get them stateside in 6 weeks! :thumbup: Before I ship these out, I randomly pick out a hood from the batch and have it test fitted! Now remember because of the nature of CF, there will be minor imperfections. I will not tolerate though required shaving to fit the hood between the fenders.

Let me give you an example. I have a gentleman who just bought a hood from us. He told me that the hood he received has some imperfection in the kidney grille section. I told him to have his body shop call me. If they don't feel confident in doing the extent of modification to the hood, don't touch it and return it to us. We will have a new one shipped out to you. The one that he originally got was unadulterated which I would then return to the manufacturer.

u have a good eye phil!

2 ways of looking at this: one, i'm going to confirm with carbon 8 if there will be washer holes. secondly, if there isn't i'll make a request to have the washer holes drilled in not unless the majority here would rather not have them.

i for one though didn't care for the washers...i don't use them since it actually worsens my visibility when the liquid is wiped off. but that might be a different case for others.

Hopefully this will get under way now :D

we went ahead with the vented style with two funnel like scoops =)...

I'd consider a powerdome one for the E90

May I request a hood, roof, trunk for the e38? I can't find anyone who is willing to do this.

when they get in mid june, i'll definitely have them fitted =)...i practice on fitment and research marketability before sharing it with the masses, obviously to avoid insane amount of returns and grumpy clients... =) i can already guaranty you the quality though...

we went ahead with the vented style with two funnel like scoops =)...

If you got a double sided carbon fiber hood, it would probably double the price of the one sided hood.

Its not cheap because fiberglass and carbon fiber still weigh less than stock:D

I may be able to get one in a couple weeks once I get insurance figured out on my car. I would be interested in the 2dr vented style. I wish I could give a deposit or something, but I won't have any money until I get some from insurance.

because of the lack of committment for the GB, i still went ahead in purchasing the the oe style and the vented I style. I can get the style II's but theyre more expensive than the style I...and its not with the price intended for the GB...since this isn't a GB anymore...local pick up is always welcome =)...
