View Full Version : 320/6 Cylinder Head DrGonzo 04-08-2008, 04:26 PM Anyone any idea's where to get a replacement cylinder head for my 81 320/6 ? Cant seem to find much. Think mine has cracked as its drinking all my coolant. Cheers Dave Scott72 04-08-2008, 05:44 PM Since it's a 200 series head, you could also source one off of a E21 323I - same head although the 323i may have a hotter cam. In the US the 2.7 ETA motors in the E30 also used the 200 series head. OLD MAN 04-08-2008, 06:10 PM over here we have cylinder head repair shops that can weld up and fix cracked heads - had mine done on my 320i 40,000 miles ago and still running strong. Cost $175.00 US with a complete valve job and resurfacing. Mine was putting water into two exhaust ports and out the tail pipe. AlaskaBimmer 04-09-2008, 04:34 AM If you use the Eta 200 series head you will have to drill a few oil holes to accommodate the "i" style cam as the have more lobes than the "e" cam. pchamaa 04-27-2008, 11:49 PM I have a 1979 323i and the PO installed an Eta head without doing the proper drilling. The cam is not getting oil. Or just swap the engine with a 325i from an E30? e21Jason 04-28-2008, 03:11 AM Hi As you are in the UK a head is no problem either pick up an e30 320 for buttons, also there is a completet 323 motor in on ebay or try FAB or Fritzbits or awanted ad on e30zone.net Jason mxl556 04-28-2008, 05:16 AM I have e21 320/6 -323 head if anyone's interested. Used with all the stuff (valves, cam, springs, etc). Let me know if you're interested. Max pchamaa 04-28-2008, 09:10 AM What is the story of the car out of? Miles? Will it need to be pressure checked, resurfaced, and valves done? In other words, iis a caore or it ready to bolt on? What would you want for it? Eamail me at bimmerfan02 at hotmail dot com. Thanks. DHoang 04-28-2008, 09:47 AM On my previous '81 323i, the 323i motor had a cylinder head w/ the last 3 digits of the part no. casted as "731" , yet to the left of this number is casted a number "83" positioned inside a circle. The head indeed has 7 cam bearing journals, thus is this a 323i head that was mfr'd in 83? I also realize that production for E21 323i ceased in early 82. Therefore, would it be safe to assume that this head came off a euro e30? Also, since it fitted precisely onto an '81 e21 323i block, is it safe to say that the e30 head is identical to that of an e21? mxl556 04-28-2008, 01:04 PM pchamaa, I bought it off e21 323 owner who had his motor built. Was some year ago ( 5?).I never used it because I still have an M10 and M20 conversion did not work out yet. I never got around to pressure test it/ check for straightness but I'd do it if I was to use it, costs $30 at the local machine shop ( used by Bullet Performance). Comes with high duration 323 cam and strong valve springs ( not ETA ones). How's $150 sounds? Yeah, if it's bad or cracked or something I'll take it back and return the money. Max mxl556 04-28-2008, 01:06 PM DHoang, you have higher flowing e30 320/323 head ( 731). Probably doesn't make any difference with K Jet and stock intake, but it is e30 head which is quite rare and valuable in US. There were some e30's made in 1982 BTW, I owned one of them long time ago- it was 83 model built in 10/82. Max pchamaa 04-28-2008, 11:50 PM Max, Email me at bimmerfan02 at hotmail dot com pchamaa 04-30-2008, 06:34 PM Max??? Is the head still available? I am interested. Please reply here or email me at bimmerfan02 at hotmail. Thanks. |
