Boxsters and Cayenne (non FI) sure. 911, nope. My M3 had more mods, was a 5-spd and was lighter than that car. It kept up with a 911 but the 911 still pulled on it in the end. VERY close race but the 911 was faster.

btw, 4dr is lighter than a 2dr and automatic is only about 75lb more than a manual car, so its not like your e36 was a CSL compared to a 4dr auto m3. It was probably 10-15lb lighter.

didn't you guys say that the 911 woudl be a good run against a 540 and an e46 m3 a few weeks back, now an automatic E36 m3/4 is a runner as well. I will bet my house, savings and every other posesion i have that that particular M3 doesn't stand a ghost chance in hell of beating either of those porsches, or an E36 M3 5spd with any mods at all, in any race. Unless it's a race to the upholstry shop.

some of the texas threads show 911s only exist in 996 and 997, who needs 993,964 or 956?. I'm sure there are plenty of (much older) 911s out there that dont stand a chance against a more modern e36 m3 mentioned in this thread.

People grow up and move out of the house (well, most of us do) and buy a e36. Then you move onto a e46. Then you move onto an e90 M3 or a Lotus...point being I don't care if you strap a jet engine to an e36 if that's what you want to do great. You really can't talk a lot of smack on a e46M3, 911, Lotus, etc etc if you just throw a bunch of numbers up and have zip zero nada in your garage that is even in the same zip code.
