I am about to do a clutch on my TT car and was wondering about the disadvantages of an aluminum flywheel. I am well aware of the advantages but I am worried about noise and any other issues involved. I have seen posts from a couple of members who have used them and was looking for honest advise.:help

I know Faisal in Laural has one on his 860, RodM8 has one on his CSi, George tracks with one on an 850 and possibly Alan Delisser on his TT 850 but not sure if they frequent this forum?
Maybe one of them could comment?

In nearly all the posts I've read regarding the noise issue people have all experienced some to a greater or lesser degree. Some it really bothers and some not. Gerry could chime in on what trans fluids he recommends/uses, but there are 'cocktails' of fluids that help with the noise. It largely depends on what you want to put up with. I have a LTW flywheel (uuc/fidanza) and a new CSI slave, SSK and weighted selector rod. Last element is the 280mm CSI clutch..... I am SO undecided as to whether I'll go this route only because of the noise issue. When all is done I want a factory quality conversion, and I simply won't know if it's tolerable I guess, unless I try it. I'm fully prepared to switch to the DM flywheel and a non SAC clutch if it's something I can't stand. I've talked personally to people on both sides of the fence, the last being Ron at Coast Motorwerk out there on the west coast who's just finishing up a conversion.... his advice was to stay factory stock as the chatter just wasn't worth it to him in his experience with both the E31's and 540/M5's etc.

Im with you I would like it quiet and as stock sounding as possible. This car is a sleeper and the quieter the better.

Yes. There is increased noise at idle with clutch pedal not pressed. I am close to the tolerance of the noise. The car revs like a motorcycle though and the light flywheel gives you a better HP translation to the road. The lighter you go the trickier the launch and 1~2 shift gets.

Is the launch trickier because it wants to stall easier? What does 1-2 shift do? I currently have a little noise in the cabin while in neutral. What would you describe your noise as and how loud?
