I ventured over here accidentally by misclicking and have officially decided that the e31 is the single greatest thing I have ever seen in my life. A few questions I have are...
About how much do these run for used?
and...
about how much am I going to be expecting to spend on maintenance.

How much or little do you want to pay?
How dirty do you want to get your hands?
Wide range of prices on 8's at the moment and how much it takes to keep it running is in inverse proportion to how much you paid up front:)

Not cheap to run but worth every penny. You get what you pay for, so spending money upfront means less woes in your future.
There is nothing like an 8.
grab your ass and wallet and let's go! Greatest thing you'll ever do. Everyone needs to own a V12 in their lifetime!
Start here for some research:

make sure you do your homework- this is like nothing else you have ever purchased. wide range of pricing and you really need to be a wrencher to own one. it takes a passion more than anything.

you can buy one for $6000-$8000, but you will spend another $10,000 getting it to where it is reliabe, or you can spend $15,000-$17,000 and only spend a couple of thousand for aesthetic upgrades (wheels, steering wheel, springs, shocks custom exhaust). Regular maintenance is just like any other car, but you have to be at the "relioable" level first for that to happen...

someone told me that a 8 in perfect shape will cost 20 grand
or it will cost the difference of what you save in the purchase in material and work to make it 20 grand.

Personally: $ 7,900 purchase price
$29,000 for everything else in the past 30 months

That was me, and it assumes you are the wrencher. Well over 30k if you're going to pay someone to do it. And it still won't be right, it lacks the "passion" it takes for everything to be just right. When it is....you'll see in Mt Dora.
