I bought the prolumen 5k hid's for foglights in my 2001 E38 and requested the plug and play wire harness also as to not cut anything. Pretty simple stuff, change the bulb, plug in the wires, and turn them on aside from finding a clean place to mount the ballast.

Well they dont work, so much for me thinking it was simple. I was afraid as first as they are not listed for an e38 on the website but I was ensured by him that he would ship correct parts and it would work, just put the 01 e38 in the notes of paypal payment.

I left them a message but nobody working on weekend and dont like leaving my car apart, anyone else have an issue with theirs??

thanks
dave

well the bulb (DS2) I think is replaced by the HID, and the kit has male connectors that you plug into the stock female light connector, so this kit (wire harness and ballast) connects the stock lighting wire from the car, to the connector directly to the bulb, you cant hook it up wrong, it's male on one side, female on the other, and like I stated, I am not doing it, my mechanic is due to my back injury, but he's probably better at this than me anyways, he didnt spend very long before he called and told me to call the place I got them cause they dont work. He does a few of these a week and he sent me a URL to some lights on ebay, they are $39.95 HID conversion kits, he said he recommended them cause that's what everyone brings him to install for them (alot of kids converting their rice burners) but I just couldn't stomach that in my E38 so I purchased from bavtoys to play it safe.

Evidently those ballasts dont need to be grounded, cause I see most people just used doublesided tape with these ?????

lol they are D2S and he recommended a $40 HID kit over a $200 one? hmm, me thinks you need a new mechanic

na, in his defense he was just saying that these kids bring all these, but they always work, hard for me to throw it back in his face now that my "expensive" kit isn't working :)

FYI I am getting no support just sarcasm from the bavtoys support, so I am thru using them, very disrespectful person doing their emails and of course will not sign nor provide me a name..

ive never had a kit that just didnt work. all after market HID kits are 9006 based connectors, which means if you used any bulb without that type of base, it wont plug and play. did you get the adapters? did you figure out which bulb you have yet?

I am not where the car is, but they are H1 are they not ?? 2001 E38 ?? everything came from them, only one way to hook it up

sorry i made a mistake, i meant connectors. so are you saying that both sides dont work? im pretty sure thats its an installation error bc im never heard of a full HID kit (regardless who its from) just not working all together.

Nope like I stated earlier, only bench tested that one side, 2 threads going here so it's probably in the other one. Someone suggested bench testing the stuff after I said i was going to the garage and double checking the stuff tommorow, and I stated that we tested 1 bulb while I was there, but have not touched any of the hardware for the other side which we will have to do tomorrow. I was just looking for any gotcha's or what have you, reason I contacted the vendor about the harness, he told me to cut the wires.........which is the whole point he and I are not getting along, he sold me an additional harness to avoid cutting wires, but now tell me to cut and solder anyways so I am sending it back to him. If i cut them and solder them and it still doesnt work I am screwed, with his attitude I dont trust them at this point anyways. Suggestion on a solid HID replacement for my foglights in an E38 ?? This thread is a mute point now, I dont want to use their stuff as they aren't supporting it as stated.

cutting and soldering an alternative to the adapters. does your mechanic know how to use the adapter harness? its quite easy, i did it in my e36.

theres a quick write up with pictures ( i rushed so excuse the spelling ). if your "mechanic" couldnt figure this out... you should start bringing your car else where.

you can also cut the factory plug off and solder and heat shirk the wires, by far the best way to do it.

Yep I told him about what the support email address told me when I initially ordered the kit from them, despite it saying detailed instructions are included there are none, so I guess I should have went thru the contents of the box before taking it to him. I printed off the webpage even though it's e36 and has no harness but like I said probably better off ordering from another company since they refuse to support me now... I told him not to touch it until I can make it back over there and I am taking the notes you fellows have been gracious enough to take the time to assist with, I wish the tech support was this helpful. Thanks to everyone, I will update the post once I get time to swing over and see him and the car.
