View Full Version : DEPO install...flickering bulb..
Bartizek 04-06-2008, 05:20 PM Okay, so here is the deal...
I installed my passenger side DEPO, angels eyes work, lows and highs work, great, no problemo.
I get to the driver's side... When I turn them on... the low's (6k apexcone) flicker for about 25 - 30 seconds, until they finally stay on.
However, the high beam bulbs in both the driver and passenger side are very very very dimly lit, the Angel eyes don't work on the driver's side, but they do on the passenger side, and when I unplug the High beam power on the driver's side, the low beam start flickering again...
I already switched out the balast, and it did the same thing...
Any thoughts..?
Mpowered95 04-06-2008, 05:30 PM hmm funny how all these "depos" are having problems now. so youre saying that the problem doesnt follow the ballast or bulb? its got to be a wiring issue, did you check your grounds and fuses? do the easy trouble shooting before you get a head of yourself.

:rolleyes Let's not go there in yet another thread.

unless you can provide the OP with information, please prevent from posting. thanks

:lol God that's rich coming from you.
To the OP, since you said it's an Apexcone kit, I'd assume you bought the package from DDMtuning or Understeer. I really don't know what's going on, but I'm sure if you call whoever you bought your lights from, they'd be glad to help you troubleshoot your issues.

im just trying to stop the problems we have here on the lighting forum (that are started by me included). im not pointing the finger at you what-so-ever. time for every1 to play nice :devillook
Bartizek 04-06-2008, 05:56 PM I bought it from understeer
I haven't checked my fuses, the FAQ didn't say anything about them, as far as I saw..
What would I do, just replace them with higher capacity ones?

higher capacity ones arent needed. just check to see if they are blown and replace. like i said before, start off small and work your way up.
Bartizek 04-06-2008, 06:05 PM well the lights come on.. so I'm assuming they aren't blown..
I really don't want to have to swap bulbs, and because once the flickering stops, the bulb looks fine.
I just can't understand why my high's would be very very dim with the low beams on...
and I don't understand why unplugging my highbeam wire, makes the bulb flicker then shut off... This is so screwy.
P.S. When they are flickering, there is a clicking that goes along with the flickering, the sound comes from the ballast...
If that helps you at all..
Mpowered95 04-06-2008, 06:08 PM you might want to have some1 check out your wiring. did you try giving DDM a call? also you never answered my question about if the bulb/ballasts problem followed from side to side.
Bartizek 04-06-2008, 06:14 PM well, i have a 3k kit for my fogs laying in my room, so I tried one of those ballasts, and the problem continued, so i know it's not the ballast.
but like i said, I don't feel like testing the bulb right now, i highly doubt it's the bulb...
I'll give understeer a call tomorrow, I don't want to bother Chris on a Sunday evening.
Thanks for the help!
Mpowered95 04-06-2008, 06:19 PM the bulb could be defective... stranger things have happened.
Bartizek 04-06-2008, 09:26 PM But would one defective bulb cause all my lights to be screwy?
Here is what my lights look like at the moment....
With just parking lights on...
All my AE rings light up, but the inside ring on the passenger side is the only one that is as bright as it should be..

With my low's on...

High beams on...
Forgot to take a picture, but the driver's side everything stays on and the Highbeam comes on, driver's side, the angel eyes and low beam shut off, and the high beam turns on.
Lol.... can't wait to give chris @ understeer a call tomorrow..
Mpowered95 04-06-2008, 09:48 PM you might want to solder the connections, they might be poor and arent drawing the right amount of power.
Bartizek 04-06-2008, 09:52 PM I don't have a soldering iron, but if i were to get one, which connections should I solder? I shouldn't have to solder any connections that I haven't made myself, I thought that's what "plug and play" was all about.
I appreciate all your help, i'm just kind of frustrated that this kit is quite the chore.
Mpowered95 04-06-2008, 10:07 PM of course, anytime you buy a headlight that claims to be plug and play and they arent, you have a right to be frustrated. you want ALL the connections to be solder IMO.
Bartizek 04-06-2008, 10:57 PM Okay, turns out I had accidentally plugged the ground into the highbeam, and vise versa, and apparently the highbeam pin can get a weak ground.
Once i switched those, everything works great, except the one ring is still alot brighter than the others.
Mpowered95 04-06-2008, 11:22 PM nice, that will probably be fixed if you choose to solder the connections for the angel eyes.
Bartizek 04-06-2008, 11:31 PM Man you just Love that Soldering Iron don't you.
I'll check them out tomorrow

lol no. ive just read a lot of angel eye problems where the reason they werent lighting up fully was bc of weak connection. so they soldered the wires and boom, they worked perfectly. the thing with angel eyes is, either they work or they dont work. so obviously there is no defect and its a connection issue.
