I am thinking of changing the tyres on the front only to increase the height so that i can get over normal speed bumps and into drives.

At the moment they are 235/45/17.

Is it ok to put 235/45/17 or 245/40/17?

Would this cause any extra wear to the suspension?

Well what is the stock tire size? It should say on the patch inside the driver's door. And you are not really changing much with adding 10mm to the surface area other than gaining some contact patch area.

Also do you have a body kit or lowering springs on your car because that could be a reason your car is so low causing you to scrap on bumps and such?
