The buy out in Oct 2008 is 34K. I can get it certified so that "a lot" is covered up to 100,000 mi. Currently ( April 5, 08) I have 35,000 mi on the car. I wonder what out of pocket expenses are coming due , and just what is not covered under certification. I probably will have spent too much for the car, but most 2006 530xi's sell for 5 to 10 k more if bought from a dealer. Not sure what to do!. I do have access to a non dealer BMW certified shop that is close by. I like the car and would prefer to keep it. I get an average of 21 to 22 mpg. Not bad
What are your thoughts?

Swalow hard and buy a less expensive auto with better fuel economy.
The Prius or the Mini is looking better the closer we edge to $4 a gallon for regular gas.
That's really the only option since at age 70, I doubt I will ever have another BMW. I just hope I don't regret that decision later on.

I think you'd regret going from a BMW 530 to a Prius or Mini. Though gas climbing can make you think twice. But then again if your not putting on hundred of miles a week I don't think you'll notice a whole lot of difference in your pocket book at the end of the month. If you like most people and drive about 600 miles a month your talking in a Prius going through a tank and a quater to half and the Bimmer going through about 2 tanks or a little less. Though the Bimmer tank is a little bigger, but in the end you may only be talking about $25 to $35 a month in savings.

You deserve the Bimmer. :)

I say you will miss the 530i and dearly.. I already pay 4.00 a gallon for 93 and would never trade my car for a lesser model. I love it too much. once its gone you will miss it and end up going back and maybe spending more money than you thought....just my .02

if its cheaper on the buyout..then from a dealer.. and you love the car.. you know how you have taken care of it.. its not abused...(per say) lol.. and chances are everything yuo get after this your gonna compare to it.. you might as well keep it.. if you can turn around and say you love the car.. then keep it..

i do that when i buy a pair of shoes or jeans(me weakness).. if i LOVVVVEEE them.. i buy it.. otherwise i ask myself..Do i reallyyyy need it?? if you answers are YES.. then just do it man!!!!!! ;) hope i helped
