I was driving my neighbor home from the hospital and there was a red Alpina 8. Not sure if it was a true Alpina because it didn't say B12 but it did have a lot of V12 badges and looked great.

Yeah but the fenders had the chrome grills like on the M3/5/6s but bigger and blacked out Alpina rims. Also it had Alpina emblems on the hood and trunk.

One dead giveaway would've been the hood louvers, but even all the true Alpinas didn't have'm.

Well, since there is only 1 (or is it 2 now?) in the country (and unlikely to have V12 badges on it) I would be willing to bet large sums that it was a modded 8-

Personally modded maybe better because then it could make more power. To my knowledge the Alpina B12 was just a normal M70 V12 with bigger valves, slightly higher compression, (9.5:1) and tuning to run correctly which only made 50 more HP and 16 more Ft-Lbs. So the Wokke chip set makes much more torque and 10 less horsepower.

I've seen a B12 but the 5ltr version, I'm sure Alpina only put the sexy bonet on the 5.7ltr version

Alpina is about the exclusivity of owning a Real Alpina.:)

Anybody can do fast or clone looks but is the same thing as having a real or fake Rolex etc. If it is real it adds extra inches :)

There are styling details of the Alpinas that I like, mainly the hood (and on the fence with the side vents). I'm trying to emulate as closely as possible that one particular detail because it looks great and serves a purpose. Unlike even the guy thats selling the car in the other thread in the UK, I'm not trying to make a fake Alpina and wouldn't put Alpina decals/badges/front license plate on my car. I agree completely about having the real thing is where its at, and that copying a detail from an OEM approved tuner is ok.

This (http://www.e31.net/technical.html) will show you the differences across the board Jimmy.
