I have a leaking valve cover on my 2000 528i. Any idea what it costs to have repaired. I am located in Santa Monica.

Any suggestions on repair shop?

Thanks

Just needs some new gaskets (and grommets?), do a search and you'll find lots of info. Your engine is very similar or identical :dunno to other I-6's so there is lots of info. And it's an easy job so don't be afraid to do it yourself.

Check that valve cover sealing surface with a straight edge when you have it off. I'll put money on it that its warped. I don't even bother doing gaskets on them anymore if they have more than 80k miles on them. Replace the valve cover. It comes with a gasket. All you need to buy separately is the grommets. We have the same car... if you are at least a little mechanically inclined, have at least 8 fingers, and a few hours, you can do it yourself. :)

There is a GREAT writeup on the beisan website,
http://www.beisansystems.com/procedures/vanos_procedure.htm

and http://www.oembimmerparts.com/page/page/4259268.htm has what you need at good prices.

I just did mine on my 540 so I had a little more work to do, but it really was a great DIY project as the Valve cover has a pretty funky paint on it that flakes and bubbles. I powder coated mine at the same time.

However, I was reminded that not everyone has the time or the tools to DIY. So, you are looking at probably $325 or so to have it done for you. Very possibly more at the Stealership. Gasket set is about $60 and labor is a couple hours. G/L

I bought that VCG from S&G for $29, Victor Reintz.

I hope you got the grommets as well and some permatex sensor-safe high temp. sealer/gasket maker.

just finished, not that bad a job at all. get the gasket, grommets, sealer. glad i did it because the gasket was hard rubber and there was a milky substance at the top of the valve cover. just takes time to disassemble and reassemble.

all cleaned up and good to go.
