View Full Version : Car Pulls Under Braking

My car pulls to the right while braking and my steering wheel tilts left slightly without any pressure applied. Under hard braking in order to keep my car going straight I have to turn the steering wheel left (counter clockwise) by 30-45 degrees.

Background:

8k miles ago - I put in almost an entirely new suspension (front thrust arms, front control arms, front and rear links, M5 rear sway bar, Bilstien Sport struts/shocks, Eibach springs, brembo rotors, and Hawk HPS pads) The only thing that didn't get replaced was the tie rod ends because the ones I got (not lemforder) rubbed the wheels.

2500k miles ago - My car gets out of alignment and to go straight I had to keep the wheel cocked 5-10 degrees to the right. When I brake my car pulls right and my steering wheel tilts left slightly if my hands aren't on the wheel. I call the mechanic he says that "text book" tie rod ends. I order them (took a month to get due to back order). and for kicks I get my tires rotated (free lifetime rotations). Problem still exists.

Today - New tie rod ends are in, car drives straight when the steering wheel is straight. But when I hit the brakes it pulls to the right, and the steering wheel goes left... this time to keep the car straight the St. Wheel is about 35-40 degrees to the left.

AND NOW WHEN i GO AROUND A SWEEPING LEFT TURN BETWEEN 55-65MPH IT FEELS LIKE MY WHEEL IS GOING TO SHAKE OFF. Its gets worse when I hit the brakes.

My mechanic says its just the front left caliper, but what would that have to do with the shaking? I feel there's something else amiss here... any ideas?

Try loosening and re-torquing your lug nuts. Maybe whoever installed your new brakes didn't tighten the lug nuts enough when he put the wheels back on. If some of them have rattled loose over the last few hundred miles, it could lead to a wheel vibrating and thus throw off the balance of the car when stress is put on that wheel.

Good call on the calibur. You may have to replace them both.

Could be a # of things.
What condition are the tires in if you had to have all that work done. Any weird wear
Could also be a wheel bearing.
Could have had other problems that you weren't aware of until the other parts got replaced. You know like when you get that rattle fixed and then you hear a different noise.
