Hi guys (and ladies if there are any). You can call me David or Helmet here. I respond to both. :)

Last weekend I drove to NY city to buy a 1988 528e automatic. It's black with a black and tan interior.

It's my second rear wheel drive car. I still own a 98 240sx SE. And no... it's not a drifter! Ha, I had to get that in there.

Back to the bimmer. I drove her back from NY without any problems. She has 155,000 miles and a few dents here and there. There's also a small crack in the dash and the drivers seat leather, and there's a seam unstitched in the rear seat to keep it fun on the inside. But she is very clean. Almost too clean! I paid $1,995. That included a hood that was detached because of a bent left hinge. With the front two clips in place I had no problems doing 70 on the interstate.

After getting back to VA I dropped it off at London Auto Services for a thorough check. If there's any Washington D.C. guys in here you probably know the place already. They said all it needed was a new center link for the steering because it was literally about to fall apart. Pretty cheap and quick fix. An hour of labor was all they needed to bend the hinge so the hood could be attached. It's a little high on the left still and doesnt swing properly when lifted but I can live with that for now. They also pointed out a few things that will need fixing in the future, like rusty brake rotors and the 02 sensor is dead, but there are zero major/safety issues with the car. The previous owner maintained it well. The rims are standard 14's. 300 miles and nothing was dripping after I parked in my driveway. I feel lucky! It's been a week now and I have yet to have a problem.

Soon I'll need help with fixing a few small things. So I'll be back because my BMW knowledge is pretty limited. Thanks for reading, later guys.

I just received my Bentley manual. Good read for my '85 e28.

I'm also hoping to pick up some good tips and advice.

Lube the snot out of the hinges at all of the pivot points and work them out good. Then they should be fine.
