View Full Version : "I'll throw in the mats"
reed872 04-04-2008, 12:44 PM So I was out last night and telling someone about delivery of my new coupe (One of my favorite stories, and freshly 2 weeks old), and I figured I would share the story here for some feedback.
When I ordered the car I told the dealer I had to have mats in the car. He told me not to worry about it and that when I came to pick up the car there would be mats in the car. In fact, thinking back I remember him now saying something about sneaking them in etc etc dealer talk. Prior to picking up my car I must've asked my dealer 1000x "So when I get there the mats will be in the car?" He told me yes yes they will be in the car etc....
So when I get there the dealer shows me the car and when I open the door I notice there are mats in the car... :D... but they are the standard mats not the winter mats that I need for the NE and like to have year round even :(. Anyway, when I go and talk to the finance guy I ask him if the mats in my car came with the car... he said yes.. I then proceeded to ask him what "throwing in the mats meant to him" So he said throwing in the mats meant that the dealer would throw in the winter mats.. duh...
So we call the SA back in and this is what he tells me...
"Yeah, I threw in the mats. I took them out of your trunk and put them into the car for you. I thought thats what you meant by throwing in the mats" LOL. Anyway, after a small back and forth of him telling me about how good my deal was, and me telling him regardless I want my mats in the car he told me they didn't have any mats and they would have to order them.... So I walked out onto the show floor and saw that the 3series conv on the floor had mats in the car, still wrapped. The GM knew where I was going with this and being a loyal customer, who they wanted to obviously walk away happy, they took the mats off the show and put them into my new coupe. Anyway, the dealer was a great guy (besides this one small scuttle) as was the dealership and I was very pleased overall. I do advise you all now though... when the dealer says "I'll throw in the mats" Please clarify with him what his definition of throwing in the mats actually is lol
Jhunter 04-04-2008, 01:22 PM I think you made out with two sets of mats because the normal carpet mats do not come standard with the car. Many dealers absorb this cost and include them with all sales. If you got the carpet mats and the weather mats you got two sets of mats for free. :redspot
robmpulse 04-04-2008, 03:28 PM Yes, Mats Do Not Come Standard, Period.
He Did What He Said He Would Do. I Think Bitching About Him Not "assuming" That You Meant Winter Mats Is Being Very ***** Like.
If You Wanted Other Than The Normal Mats, You Should Have Specified. The Dealer Did Nothing Wrong, But Here You Are Spreading Around Your Story About How They ****** Up And Since You Are Who You Are They Solved The Problem.
Trust Me, It Had Nothing To Do With "you". You Are Not Special. ;)
You Have A Good Dealer And They Did What Any Dealer Should Do In This Situation. Be Lucky.

Capitalizing Every Word Is Annoying. Please Stop It.
Also, Carpet mats are standard in everything except the 1,3, and Z4 series I believe.
GreenThree 04-04-2008, 05:00 PM Haha. Unbelievable. I was surprised BMW did not come standard with mats. He threw in both the all weathers and the carpet mats for me.

You keep talking about your new coupe. Why does your cars list say e90 and your sig says 328xi Sedan???

I gotta be honest here. Most of your posts, especially this one, seem to do nothing but perpetuate the reason there is animosity between client and dealer. You seem to have a very negative attitude toward anyone who posts anything to do with their dealings with their dealership and/or client advisor.
Just my .02.
reed872 04-05-2008, 12:35 AM I'm pretty sure the carpet mats were standard-
In my old 325i I left the carpets under the weather, do most people do the same or just do one or the other?
2) I loved my dealer- I never said I didn't. I wasn't a prick towards him in anyway lol.
mryakan 04-05-2008, 01:37 AM Can't believe people still complain about the mats. When you check into a 5 star hotel and they don't offer you free continental breakfast do you complain. I mean you are paying 500$+ for a hotel room what is a 20$ meal to them, but things don't work out that way. It's the whole North American mentality of the "customer is always right" which many take it too far IMO. When you buy a car, you are engaging in a transaction and both buyer and seller try to negotiate a deal with what is offered and how much to pay for it. Some may get free mats, others may pay for them and some may pay a premium just to get what they want or get it before someone else. That is how a capitalist society works, if someone doesn't like it, they should move to a socialist state and see what they think then (not that they will have much choice as to what they can think).

reed872 04-05-2008, 02:38 AM Your point is taken but you have to understand that we negotiated a price and in that price we agreed that the dealer would "throw in the mats." So it was built into our deal, not just something I was asking for at delivery; that would be a different story. If he says hes going to throw in the mats as part of the package, and he doesnt, its just the same as him changing the price at delivery.

Your dealer may provide them as "standard" but the car does not come from BMW with floor mats as standard equipment.
Bonds 25 04-05-2008, 02:35 PM My only complaint is that the floor mats are "yugo" shitty, I mean come on, what the F are those things. But my dealer did "throw em in for me" so thats as far as I will go with my bitching.
BillSD 04-05-2008, 03:22 PM As others have said, the mat are NOT standard. Also, the one's he did "throw in" were the more expensive of the two. If I asked my dealer to throw in mats, I would expect the nicer carpeted ones. But that's just me...

Maybe you have a shitty dealer then. The ones that they threw in my car were the rubber ones and I cleaned them today for the 1st time after 6 months of salt and grime. They looked awful and salt was encrusted on them, but after washing with some hot water and dishwasher soap, they look brand new. They'd don't even look to have taken any wear from the months of winter abuse. Bottom line, some dealers may be cheap and throw in cheap mats, or some people may be too picky and expect space age technology mats to be thrown in for free. Whatever it is, can we freaking stop complaining about mats and enjoy the awesome machine they are in.
Bonds 25 04-05-2008, 11:05 PM It has nothing to do with the dealer, the carpeted floormats for the 335 are shitty....plain and simple...shitty. They are the same floor mats that are in the accessories book. I just think a $50,000 car should come with at least some quality floormats

Well good thing I have the rubber ones then, I like them all year long.
Ty Vil 04-06-2008, 05:37 AM Carpeted mats are the more expensive of the two...
And you're complaining...
Bonds 25 04-06-2008, 07:29 AM Im not complaining about the fact the dealer threw them in, that was NICE of them. Im complaining cause the mats are SHIT. Its almost like they are made out of cardboard with some carpet glued to it. I could give a "F" about the free mats. Its not about that. I would rather pay good money for some decent floormats (Rubber excluded) but those are the only 3 series mats available
siggyfreud 04-07-2008, 02:48 AM So much negativety here. :mad
Fun story though :). Congrats on sticking to your guns.

I live in a socialist state and don't like it at all :(

We are talking about a three series. Which is why my statement about the mats not being standard "period" applies to three series. Your comment does nothing but confirm what I said was true. So what's your point?
lol

Are you really that narrow minded? He did throw in the mats. You didn't ask for the all weather mats. How is he supposed to know that is what you wanted? The problem is not them, it's your failure to communicate. And because your failure to communicate, you are now posting on an inline forum about how much the dealer sucks and you are a special person and got them to do something you wanted them to do. What a tool. lol
I do defend the dealer, but not all the time. I defend them when you tools who have the aforementioned "the customer is always right" attitude.
You know what's funny. Contrary to popular belief, this is way more common with 3 series owners than the more expensive 5 and 7 series owners. Go figure.
to sum this thread up......
you came here to brag about how you got your way, and ended up exposing the fact that you are narrow minded and a tool.
This thread gets my vote for best of the week.
:evil2
siggyfreud 04-07-2008, 12:40 PM I am really suprised by some of the negative reaction to this thread. I read it and enjoyed it as a fun story. Its always nice to hear the 'little guy' getting a little something extra from the dealership. We are talking about floormats for goodness sake. I dont really care what type of car you are buying, when you are spending 40-50k a 70 dollar set of mats is nothing to the dealer.
Maybe too many people here had to grab their ankles to get floormats?? I really just dont understand people and their gripes sometimes . . .
and ended up exposing the fact that you are narrow minded and a tool.
Whats your problem? No floormats when you bought your car? I'd hate to think of the assumptions people make about you from this thread.
robmpulse 04-07-2008, 01:48 PM Those that no me make no assumptions. I simply say what other people think and don't say. This thread has a lot more to do with than floor mats. the OP did not come here to inform us about how there was a misunderstanding and his great dealer fixed the problem. He came here to brag about how "the customer is always right and how he showed the dealership they better give him what he wants".
Two completely different things. If I would be allowed to make an assumption, I bet he is also the type fo guy that begs for a loaner car because he can't take an hour out of his day to get a tire replaced due to running over a nail. Which, by the way, is not covered under the new car warr or MP. ;)
siggyfreud 04-07-2008, 02:51 PM And . . . ?
Does it really irk you that much that someone feels that the customer IS right and shares their experience with it? Please help me understand because people like you confuse me. Humor me because I don't know you.
mryakan 04-07-2008, 03:38 PM Ok guys, this thread has derailed far enough and is not adding any benefit to anyone. It is just wasting precious server bandwidth. The OP has told his story and it will be here for all to read, but this thread is being locked for everyone's good. I'm sure there will be lots of other topics to bicker about, so carry on.
