Dare I post in here? :paranoid: I know it can get messy
Disclaimer: Please go easy on me people. I am not that savvy with FI. I built an S14 silvia conversion back in 03 that was real nice, but that was pretty straight forward other than the wiring. I also had a 94 Volvo 850R touring that was pretty much stock.
I have been talking with Todd at TCD for quite some time. My funds are finally at the point where I can afford the build. The car will be on it's way to TCD at the end of this month.
What's to come: TCD stage II turbo kit. Water to air IC with full exhaust and tune.
So far I started with a 1992 525 5 speed with the M50 non vanos. Pulled the M50 non vanos and painted the engine bay with PPG single stage.
I purchased an M52 vanos from a 97 528. I chose the M52 b/c they are relatively cheap and available, have .3L over the M50 but less bore than the S50/52 for better head clamping as well as vanos.
I also bought an OBDI M50 vanos harness from TCD and an OBDI M50 vanos DME from car-parts.com
I tore down the motor, had the block honed. Stock pistons cleaned with new BMW rings. New bearings and seals as well. 3 angle valve job on the head with new seals and a re-surface. All new upper and lower gaskets.
In addition I am using an E36 M3 flywheel with a UUC stage 1 clutch from TCD. I bought 8/94 M3 cams from a member here. ARP head studs from TCD
The goal is 350-375 RWHP. I figure the cams, OBDI controls and intake manifold should give me a solid 40+ hp gain off the bat over the M50 non vanos or the M52 vanos with OBDII controls.
Let me prelude the pix by giving a bit of history.
I got the car from a member on bimmer.info and it looked almost the same as it does today. It was the 2nd or 3rd place winner of the virtual online E34 car show. I contacted Brodee and asked where he got his mods as I was in the market for an E34. Long story short he asked if I was interested. I bought the car and he got a 540.
Since then I have done so much work to get the car to where I wanted it. I added Koni shocks to the existing Vogtland springs. I stripped and painted the exterior pillars with PPG base/clear then wetsanded and high speed buffed. Replaced 2 of the AC Schnitzer Type III reps with 2 real ones. Sumitomo HTRZ II tires, Black synthetic suede headliner, interior pillars and rear parcel carpet. Replaced the 92 door panels with 95 which have the tufted leather inserts, and double stitched leather grab handles. Sanded the wood trim and then painted with PPG base/clear, wetsand and buff. same process on the bumpers and grill. (I do paint as a hobby). Retro-fitted Acura TSX projectors with Philips HID bulbs (The best mod ever!!!!!) next to turbo of course :)
Here are a few pix of the car and of the progress. Thanks to Todd of course and Jon K for helping with ideas and suggestions.
Thanks to Jone34T for helping remove and re-install the motor. I hope to have the engine in by next week. Off to TCD by the last week of April.
