View Full Version : 1998 M3 for sale over 30k invested 26,500 only 50k miles!
chamionevents 04-02-2008, 06:18 PM I have a 1998 BMW M3 estoril blue sedan 5 speed for sale.
It is beautiful and has 450 hp. Please check it out at cars.com and autotrader.com.
It has Almost all Dinan and RMS equipment available including supercharger with aftercooler and ceramic headers.
It has a pure stock look with the expetion of being slightly lower and a exhaust snarl you wouldn't believe.
The car is a pin with 50k orginal miles
This isnt just the average m3 so dont ad a post saying it should sell for 16-18k becuase that is not the market for this car.
I had it for sale for 28,500 and I have brought it down 2,000.00
libravcs 04-02-2008, 06:20 PM wrong forum and damn sure wrong price.
not avg m3, for sure... but no one pays for parts....
keikun 04-02-2008, 06:47 PM G/L w/sale but wrong section.
S54ATL 04-02-2008, 09:55 PM There's a reason you had to bring the price down $2K...
e30'd much? 04-02-2008, 10:04 PM MAYBE $22k...maybe
savage217 04-02-2008, 10:15 PM It depends how mint the car is. Im sure somebody out there might find it worth it to them.
Jahseso 04-02-2008, 10:24 PM perfect! an E36 for the same price as an E46, just what I have been looking for!!
fishforlife 04-02-2008, 10:28 PM this car may just sell for the asking price....it should defiantly sell for at least 20k. good luck with the sale....something like this youd be better off keeping or parting the kit and returning to stock to sell car for 17ish.
David Aye 04-02-2008, 10:49 PM my last m3 was about 15k. But it is pretty mint, with only 58k miles on it.
sounds like a good car.
chamionevents 04-02-2008, 11:02 PM I will make sure to follow you guys around and sabatoge whatever your trying to sell with stupid claims for truth
Volfinator 04-02-2008, 11:08 PM I will make sure to follow you guys around and sabatoge whatever your trying to sell with stupid claims for truth
Time to grow up. Your car is maybe worth 20k as it sits right now. NOBODY pays for parts. Return it to stock, sell it for about 17k and sell the modifications separately
chamionevents 04-02-2008, 11:30 PM no body pays for parts, but I am supposed to sell them seperate isnt that a oxy moron statement?
I am sure I will find someone who wants the nest color/trany combo that throws down 355 hpw to the rear wheels and 300 ft lb of torque.
That is done right with low miles and perfect shape
Quit selling it short what out there is even close for that kind of money?
Jahseso 04-02-2008, 11:35 PM no it's not an oxy moron.... nobody pays for parts, they pay for a car... if you go to the school for the hopelessly literal than I guess buying a car is paying for parts.
Quit selling it short what out there is even close for that kind of money?
lol an e39 m5..... a 2002 E55.... a C32 Amg... trust me i'm in the market. Soon to have one of those 3 in a couple of months.
Costco 04-02-2008, 11:44 PM People are just pointing out that 1. this is the wrong section for posting a car for sale and 2. your going to have a hard time getting your asking price and if you want a quicker sale or maximize your return your probably better off taking the mods off of the car and selling them separately.
Good luck with the sale..
Brent 930 04-02-2008, 11:44 PM Saying NOBODY buys parts is false, and you would be stupid to pay $16k for something nice but stock, and then spend $30k when you could have it all for $26K. Not to mention all the headaches that come with upgrading and getting it right.
I paid a premium for my car since I didn't want to pay tons of money for the parts and labor since I was going to get something similar anyhow. Not only that, the loan covers it so it won't take years to have the car almost where I want it. If a buyer really wants the parts because he/she is planning on having them it's a good deal. You just need the right buyer, and most people are fine with a nearly bone stock car.

I do agree with this too. You obviously want to wait and try to sell the car as a whole before parting though.
tEckniks 04-03-2008, 12:13 AM lol, 28,000 when you can buy a e46 m3.
mike02 04-03-2008, 01:18 AM lol, 28,000 when you can buy a e46 m3.
sounds like this is faster than an e46 M3.
chamionevents, put it on ebay. sounds like a really nice car, you'll just have to find the right kind of person to sell it to.
Brent 930 04-03-2008, 09:15 AM lol, 28,000 when you can buy a e46 m3.
An E46 is a heavy big fat pig. Nice car otherwise.
Low to mid 20's for the right buyer is worth it IMO.
RoadyRacing 04-03-2008, 09:32 AM I think what the others are saying is that no one WANTS to pay for the car PLUS the parts. An example would be the value of YOUR -AS IS car if it was totaled or stolen. I was in the same situation not long ago with a maxed out Honda Prelude. I kept most of the stock items which I replaced back on the car, sold the goodies separately and still got a great price for the car. I turned around and bought a sweet 99 M3 loaded with Schnitzer parts for the price of a stock E36 M3. The seller couldn't get the asking price because the performance parts scared off all but this Gear Head.
Good Luck with your sale.

Yet a stockish e46 M3 would probably still waste you in everything including MPGs..... Not hating on ya bro. But seriously I thought I had gotten the nicest e36 possible for 17500 last year and now I cant sell it for $15k with over $5k in parts and work i had done to it to keep it perfect. You think I'll get $17500 ever again? No. Even if your car was PERFECT. It wouldnt go for more then $22k. I'm not bashing on your price. But considering the facts of how ALL e36 owners are getting the shaft. Dont get too offended.
TH3 Shifty 04-03-2008, 11:13 AM yeah... since the price of E46 M3's are now in the 22-26 range... you would be very hard pressed to find some one willing to pay in the mid-low 20's for an E36... hell there was a guy on here that had a Euro Engine swap done, Dakar Yellow, very fast.. he only got 19k i think it was... just because its DINAN doesnt mean its better. 50k mile E36 with DINAN stage 3 package and supercharged.. might pull 18-19k.. not even close to 26k... unless you find a person who has no idea about BMW's..
dust4life 04-03-2008, 11:44 AM This isnt just the average m3 so dont ad a post saying it should sell for 16-18k becuase that is not the market for this car.
yes it is, maybe a little higher if it is mint as you say but not by much. the market for e36 m's just isn't as hungry as it used to be
chamionevents 04-04-2008, 03:55 AM A car that would sell for 17-19 stock I guess 23-25 is fair.
Anyway let me know if someone wants her
Knudsonsm3 04-04-2008, 04:07 AM you dont pay for mods. sorry but you may as well part it out or keep it ;)
cpcalkins 04-04-2008, 09:55 AM No offence but without pics, who here really knows what you have... I have seen no post where you would be willing to send out pics and to be honest I hate autotrader and cars.com... Im sure your car is worth 25k to you but in todays market, it will be hard to get that kind of money... Provide compression and leakdown numbers, provide service history, and high res pics of each body panel and interior and that may help... Im not saying you cant get what you want, but look at it this way... You are asking a premium for a 10 yo car... Market it accordingly and sell yourself with the car... You are going to get no where on here being a smartass... People on here are smart and know what they are looking for... Ignore the obvious low ballers and find your nitch market...
Good Luck with the sale...

Ive been looking for e36 m3s lately, and the ones that are stock with just the amount of miles urs have are selling for about 12-15k. Just to let you know you can find an e36 m3 with around 110k miles for around 10k, i think a lot of people would go for that instead. GL with the sales though.
Rowan611 04-04-2008, 11:23 AM Here is the link from Cars.com http://www.cars.com/go/search/detail.jsp;?tracktype=usedcc&searchType=22&pageNumber=0&numResultsPerPage=50&largeNumResultsPerPage=0&sortorder=descending&sortfield=PRICE+descending&certifiedOnly=false&criteria=K-%7cE-ALL%7cM-_5_%7cB-30000%7cH-%7cD-_47_%7cN-N%7cR-10000%7cI-1%7cP-PRICE+descending%7cQ-descending%7cY-_1998_%7cX-popular%7cZ-66048&aff=national&paId=262645590&recnum=0&leadExists=true; f
First thing I would do is take some better pictures of her, some close ups of the engine compartment and Dinan badging. You also need more interior shots, it's a nice looking M3/4 but I don't think you're going to get $26.5 for her but I guess it doesn't hurt to try. GL with the sale.

Except that heavily modded cars are often sold as a way of getting rid of a problem. I'd much rather start with a stockish car and know what's been done to it.
I've got a '98 too!
Mine runs great and probably has 2 more doors than yours!
You'll have to share your medication or what you're smoking with the rest of us, so that we
can perceive reality the same way you do.
Good luck with your sale!

Bimmer325 04-04-2008, 02:08 PM I mean, if anything I would probably drop it a little bit more. I paid about 20 for a minty fresh low mileage Estoril sedan 5spd. I probably overpaid but it was worth it *to me*, and with my trade in it worked out nicely.
Tony Soprano 04-04-2008, 02:45 PM i saw this on autotrader and ROFL'd at the price. whats really awesome is that right below this car on autotrader there's an 01 E46 M3 6sp with 79k for a grand more. LOL
libravcs 04-04-2008, 02:58 PM i saw this on autotrader and ROFL'd at the price. whats really awesome is that right below this car on autotrader there's an 01 E46 M3 6sp with 79k for a grand more. LOLso what? As was proven in that other thread, a modified (non f.i.) E36 M3 is "almost" as fast as a stock E46, which spawns the new phrase "If you aint second, you last". r.o.f.l.m.a.o
M8 > * 04-04-2008, 06:36 PM anyone comparing it to an e46 this is obviously not the car for you. Some people just want an e36. It is only going to appeal to a small niche market, but I was only looking for a techno or estoril sedan and it took me 6 months to buy one. And I spent 17 grand on it. That was at the top of my budget, but if I had more to spend I wouldn't hesitate to choose this over an e46. It's a completely different car.
AlphaWolf5 04-04-2008, 07:38 PM I want to see some pics of the mod but the link to autotrader only have one engine shot and rests are mostly exterior. I can't see how people would even make an offer.
chamionevents 04-05-2008, 03:28 AM This cars does 0-20 in 4.2 seconds what e46 pig does that stock
///MacDaddy 04-05-2008, 08:22 AM This cars does 0-20 in 4.2 seconds what e46 pig does that stock
My 1978 Schwinn w/10 speed tranny does that!
J/K...must be a typo
NICE CAR!!
OCWHEELWURX.COM 04-05-2008, 11:04 AM it's a value to someone...just not to the folks perusing bf.com.
there is inherent 'diy' culture associated w/these forums (dare i say fanatical), as such, the price is likely not justified (or attainable) to a younger, grass roots type enthusiast.
try dupont registry, ebay even.
very nice car, best of luck w/your sale. if you're able to weather these economic times you might find your buyer. seems nothing is selling for as much as it used.
Jahseso 04-05-2008, 11:57 AM bump, best of luck to you mate. if I had the kind of money this'd be a true catch!
ip.s. have 9k...
tsweers89 04-05-2008, 01:30 PM wow this has turned into quite a FS ad
chamionevents 04-05-2008, 03:49 PM I was thinking last night that here I am talking with a bunch BMW freaks like me and everyone is bagging on the car that they also have, I dont get it. I would think everyone should be cheering me on and people showing pride in the car. Not saying these car worth carp anymore maybe I came to the BMW critic site I must be lost
chamionevents 04-05-2008, 03:55 PM by the way I just bought 18" staggered 8.5 9.5 tsw thruxtin wheels for the car.
You should also know it is perfectly tuned as the perfectly tuned my bank account to get there.
markesq 04-05-2008, 06:09 PM GL with the sale. Hope you get what you want for it.
Note to self...Do Not Put my car on Bf.c when time to sale. :)
