So I find an e38, red metallic, bad power steering pump, busted heater core. under 3grand. car is almost 200 miles from me, but i hear the heater core bypass is all of like $200, and as far as steering goes, damned if I know the full extent. 160k miles on the odo.
i would be dropping my 325e for it. yeah or nay? i read the buyers' guide, I know that I may be in for a shock when i take it out on the road, but then again, maybe not.

I'd bet you anything there are far more problems than that. If you can do the work yourself, go for it. I'd get a full inspection before buying it.

the guy is a high-pressure seller.
I'd love if someone around Camp Pendleton that knows the E38 was around to help me inspect the car.
I can do a lot of work, I'd rather let TNG up here do the work. I am wayyyyyyy too swamped, and I am awesome at time management. I make 24 hours look like 30.

Pressure him more. Make him think you know everything there is to know about E38's and talk him way down. Show him repair estimates in writing and be willing to walk away if he doesn't budge.

I don't imagine there is much room to go under 3 grand on a 98 740il...
