What are the f***g odds that I leave my 530 at the dealer to do some minor work, they tell me they need a few days to get the parts, then call me and tell me my rear bumper cover was stolen!! Of all the cars at a BMW dealer, m3's, m5's, m6's, literally hundreds of vehicles on the lot worth so much more than mine, someone goes and steals my sh*t. Has to be a tech that works there, who else? The gate was left unlocked, no surveilance on that part of the lot, how convenient! The kicker, they tell me to call my insurance to put a claim in!!! I don't think so, I would think they are responsible for that one. Maybe I should demand an m-5 rear bumper???

check the dealer's policy. it should clearly state somewhere "We are not responsible...yada, yada, yada..."
if not then you will need to call your insurance and sue for damages.

Yeah, you won't get anything from the dealer. They may be really nice and cooperate though. My shop would probably just buy you a new bumper if it happened here, but many won't. :D

Sounds a little fishy. I would go down there and see if someone maybe hit (employee) and not actually stolen. Also, I agree with eightnine535 and check the policy on responsibility.

In other news, lowell recently said he has a few M5 rear bumper covers...

I may just have to talk to lowell about that...Their body shop quoted me $1300 + just for the rear bumper cover. I would assume responsibility if they had called me and said the car was ready, come get it and I left it there, but the car still isn't done and I think they should take responsibility for this. The service writer called me last week on Wednesday, told me that they only had one technician that was familiar with the E34's and he would start my car on Thursday. He told me how beautiful my car is and how pleased the tech was to see a 14 year old car in such amazing condition(only 31,000 mile). He then assured me that the car would remain indoors while it was there. I just went to the dealer, they are telling me I'm on my own with this and that they will talk with their supervisors to "see if there is anything that they can do."

That is BS that they took the bumper cover off and it got stolen, thats something they should cover for good customer history, not just becuase there policy lets them slip out of it

No kidding its bs...even more bs is that they reported it at 7:30 AM Yesterday and didn't call me until this morning. In the report it says that it happened between Friday and Monday and they also told the police that they were going to be responsible since it was on their lot. That isn't what they told me today though...

That is bullshit. I'd light their fuckin' shop on fire if they told me they weren't going to pay for it.

get a copy of the police report that says that - if they haven't written it yet, talk to the officer and have him be sure to put that they said they would take care of it in the report

take report, slap on GMs desk and demand a new bumper

damn, that sucks. seriously. get that police report and show it to the dealer. if not, write a complaint letter to BMW of NA and they'll probably over-rule what the dealers decision is.

if someone called me and told me something was stolen from my car while it was at their shop...i'd freak!!

they should have looked at your car and then said... yea something might go missing if we leave it over the weekend, u sure u wanna leave it..

if u say yes, then its your problem, if they didnt warn u...then its their problem.

Tell me about it! What happened was I brought it there initially for an alignment and a couple other small issues. My indy has been swamped with work so I figured I would just take it to the dealer. I brought it there Monday the 24th. They called me on Wednesday and told me that they only had one technician that was fimiliar with the e34 and they noticed my belt was cracked and suggested I change it. They also said that there was an updated pulley so I needed the new pulley and belt, but it was going to take a few days for the parts. Also, they suggested I get new tires before the alignment so it would be perfect. I asked for a quote on the rubber and it was actually a very fair price so I told them to get the tires as well. The service writer told me that it was going to be a few days for parts, but he assured me two or three times that the car would stay inside. I felt very comfortable after that so I said no problem, get it done. The "theft" occured somewhere between Friday and Monday, they filed a report on Monday, but they didn't call me until Tuesday to tell me that they had a problem and I should call my Insurance company. To make it worse, the service manager is being a complete douchebag. Will not speak to my insurance agent, will not release the company's insurance info. I called BMW NA and they suggested I call the GM of the dealership and he has to release his info to me. Complete B.S.

Going to pick up the 530 now, without a rear bumper. They want me to pay $500 and they will fix it, but I refused. I have already contacted my attorney and will hopefully get reimbursed for this by someone!
