Okay so my parents and I are here in Italy since dad's here on business and was like hey, let's go! So we got in Sunday morning and have been out enjoying everything for the past few days. It's exactly 3:32pm right now (15:32) so if my posting times look screwy, thats why.

But so yeah the cars here are hilarious and awesome! First off, our rental, which we don't get to use or see much is a BMW 120d :redspot. It's weird, I also didn't know that Mercedes has an A Class (http://www.mercedesforum.com/models/a-class/images/mercedes-a-class-1.jpg) and they're everywhere! The 1 series cars aren't as common, but its great to see them. I've seen 2 E34's so far, and only 1 ricer, thank god. It's interesting since EVERY vehicle here (Torino, Italy) is diesel, no gasoline for miles. Most of the badging on cars is stuff like 2.3TDIC or 1.8CDi, all sorts of stuff, and I haven't gotten the hang of it yet. The smart cars are pretty fly too, they look like they're pretty quick since they're light as hell. Anyways, take a look -

First E34, with an M badge. Sadly it's probably a 518i or 524td or something.

Okay I doubt anyone has seen this, I know I haven't, it's an E46 hatchback! This is basically the E46 equivalent of a E36 318ti or whatever. Oh, I also saw an E36 touring, an E30 touring, and thank god, an E34 touring.

The one downside, getting these damned converters...at least they're only 1 euro.

And yes that is a link to the E34 forum on my homescreen =D

But yeah, so far it has been a great trip. Some other great models I've seen were things like 530td touring (beautiful), 630td, 730td, 330Cd, 123d, etc...

Hope y'all enjoyed it

Nice to see they know how to treat wranglers over there:evil2

That e46 compact doesn't look too bad. Nothing like the hideousness of the e36 318ti

glad to see you're seeing how the rest of the world lives! what city are you in?

the new diesel's are amazing little torque monsters. we didn't drive enough to justify the higher taxes on a diesel car (diesel is cheaper than gas, but they tax the car itself more to make up for the lost revenue, so diesels really only make sense if you drive a lot). if you get a chance to drive your rental do it, you'll be impressed.

i was also amazed at how the relative size of the cars made an e34 seem huge. i never would have dreamed of an e34 when i lived in germany, our e36 seemed big, and was fine for all our needs.

check out all the italian cars while you're there, the new fiats and alfas are fantastic.

mmmm, real gelato. have fun!

He didn't show a picture of the ultra hideous front of the E46ti. It's so ugly it makes the e36 ti look good.

Those are great pics btw! Keep em coming!

Those E46 ti's are all over the place over here, the Mercedes A cars are pretty popular too, have you seen the Audi that looks like the Mercedes A class yet? Those are pretty cool, my friend has one with a diesel in it and with the summer wheels on it it's really a neat looking car. As far as the diesel thing goes, you can find just about anything over here as a diesel, I've actually seen a couple of Chrysler 300 C's driving around that look like the Dodge magnum with a Turbo Diesel. Enjoy the rest of your trip! If you end up here in Deutschland send me a PM maybe we can meet up and talk E34's and maybe even show you to a nice Bimmer graveyard close by...

Haha I will definitely take more pics, and yeah, it would be amazing to bring somma those back. Course, I can only imagine the look on the guys face when I want to check 4 wheels onto a plane. :D

Hah, nice shoppage there, it took me a second.

Yeah dude, it was a pretty clean YJ. I just thought it looked funny next to a Smart car. Back in the States you see those wranglers everywhere, but never the smart cars, so I was like WHOA.
It was weird, I also saw a bigass Dodge 2500 Cummins TD, lifted about a foot, huuuge mud tires, the works. Wonder how often he fills up....:devillook And yeah the e46 compact wasn't bad, I just had NO idea they existed.

Man, I would die to live here, if I knew Italian. There are like 20 coffee/sandwich/gelato/pizza/errythang delicious shops everywhere. Right now we're in Torino (Turin) which is in the piedmont, and man it's beautiful.

The diesels are so choice, our 120d is like 260tq I think, I know the 123d's are around 300tq/200hp :eyecrazy. If the diesel is cheaper then that makes sense, either way it makes for great driving. just getting used to the size of the cars is crazy.

Alfa Romeo has some awesome cars! We're going to take a trip to either a FIAT or Alfa museum, it might just be a historic car museum, so I'll definitely have more pictures. :buttrock

But yeah more pics to come, and we'll be in Modena on Friday to check out the Ferrari factory. :redspot

go to the alfa museum if possible, lots of cool historic cars and lots of their old racecars, plus it's never crowded. i'm a huge alfisti and i never made it, but someday i will.

Just adding a few more pics from today. When we went on this local mall-sort of road, Via Roma, I saw the same e46 hatch again, and SO MANY E93 (?) coupes. Most of them were 335i hardtops, it was heavenly. The picture where the Carrera is- that's where a guy stopped in this flawless, black, top down 335i, and then the light changed and he RACED off and god that car sounds brilliant! (stock, too!)

Def more to come later...we're hitting up an Alfa museum and then to Modena to see the Ferrari Factory :buttrock
