I have a 1998 328i that is coming up with the code for a "camshaft position sensor malfunction" according to the OBDII reader. Has anyone experienced this problem before and is it a quick/easy fix?
The car seems to be running totally fine. The check engine light came on about a day after I got an oil change at a local shop.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Code is P340 on my OBDII scanner

This is a very common error and is relatively easy and cheap to fix. Definitly a DIY.

I had a Nissan once that gave me all sorts of problems.
Starting, cutting out and more.
I changed everything in the ignition system (including the computer) only to find out in the end that I had a bad connector to the Cam Shaft Position Sensor.
Corrosion is a real pain.
Check and clean all the connectors on the wiring to the WHOLE ignition system and especially to the CPS. CAS (Cam Angle Sensor)
Then you can think about buying parts.

Thanks for the replies, I will clean what I can and reset the codes and if they return then will have to buy parts.

Nice easy fix, $100 (or less) in parts from Pelican and about 1.5 hours.
Just wrote up a quick DIY
