so its time for another update....this week my shark got $1500 worth of parts and goodies

sadly it was too dark to get any photos during the install process, but i will be taking some soon.

after months of a wining power steering pump and installing 3 different manufactured pumps that were faulty, i bought a new one direct from the original manufacture in Germany, ZF.

to make sure this time that NOTHING would obstruct the flow of the fluid or cause anymore hiccups, my friend and I completely replaced the entire system - the pump, all the pressure hoses and fittings, return lines the works. the only original part that now remains is the reservoir.

additionally i was also having a problem with the brake system -- my brake accumulator (aka brake bomb) was bad....it was causing a 1-2 second delay from when you pressed the pedal until the car stopped. since its pressure lines are connected with the power steering system it was a simple install.

after all was said and done i am so impressed with how this car drives -- its really a complete transformation from what it has been since i bought it. now the car sounds proper without a wining and grinding power steering system -- the steering response is MUCH more responsive, and even better, with the new brake accumulator combined with the new brembo brakes and ceramic pads, this car has eye-popping stopping performance. the pedal is rock solid with firm feel and feed back and a much shorter amount of travel -- just the way i like it!!

as posted in the wheel & tire section -- i ordered 18inch machine-faced m-parallel wheels, those should be here this week!!

i'm so impressed with how well this car is comming together, mechanically its almost flawless....here is whats left:

exhaust rebuild (we've installed a temporary system right now)
wheel bearings
shocks & springs
a/c -- fix and convert to R134A
drive shaft u-joint
head rebuild (needs new valve seals, and i'd like to replace the gaskets)

and thats pretty much it!

most of what is left is going to wait until the car gets painted which if all goes well it should get started this month, i'm tired of it being delayed!!

edit: add one more item to the list -- located a set of power M-sport seats with my same interior color!!! going to pick those up this weekend :D

I know this is a bit late but in regards to your powersteering whine, next time- check the filter at the bottom of your reservoir, it is a $10 part.

yeah def. a bit too late -- the reason why we never saw it is because there was a plate that was covering it that wasn't original -- when it was sitting down there you couldn't see past it and it had very little clearance to the walls of the reservoir regardless, almost all of the pressure hoses and connectors were bad, so either way, it had to be done and i'm much happier with a 100% new system :D

yeah its very rewarding. this is prolly the only time that i've spend this amount of money at once and not had buyer's remorse :)

There is supposed to be a plate/cap (ref#10) covering the filter, (but I have noticed that several cars have ref #17 missing). This spring loaded cap acts as a pressure relief for the filter.

i'm well aware that there is suppost to be a cap on top of it :)

but the cap that was in there was not the original, and it was too big, it was essentially jammed into the reservoir at the bottom. being new to the E24 i had no idea anything else was wrong :rolleyes
