About to dive in and drill holes in the trunk lid. Have the 2 piece M-tech spoiler and I don't have the original foam tape that goes around the perimeter. What I plan on using is the 3M rubber 2 sided tape. Think that will be good enough? Used it when I had to install the rear emblem and it looks fine. Any other ideas or by chance have the correct stuff?

Haven't done it myself, but I appreciate the trepidation associated with drilling holes in the car where there were none before.

I was just reading this thread with wokke's advice about just using windshield glue or similar, as screw holes can promote rust.

That's what I'm trying to avoid. Getting ANY moisture into the lid. It's taken long enough just to build a rust free tool kit. Plan on sealing where the bolt holes will be and use the 2 sided tape to keep water from getting under the spoiler. I don't see the drain plugs that Wolf talks about, but I'll probably drill a hole on each corner on the inside to work as a drain. I've seen/heard water that does get trapped inside the lid on a couple 6's with a spoiler installed. If it doesn't drain you can hear the water when opening and closing. A sure sign there is a leak somewhere.

Had to drill holes for my spoiler, came with three bolts built in and 3M double side tape. I drilled the holes cleaned off the spoiler so the tape would stick, when I was ready to put it on I put a drop of regular tub chaulking on the holes and put it all together, seals fine and protects the exposed areas.

i never did see the drain holes that wolf was talking about. so far i've just taken off that cover on the lid so if water does get in their it can go somewhere else instead of stay trapped in the lid.
