View Full Version : 8 series forum goes into cardiac arrest!!!!
zenon 05-08-2003, 08:26 PM lets put some paddles on it and jump-start it back to life!
:buttrock
here's some pics of what AC can do:

and then koenig:

personally I think koenig hit the nail on the head! that's what I would get for sure.... but if you aren't a nut like me that would turbocharge it then the AC seems a little more low pro :)
///MDriver 05-21-2003, 01:08 PM AC in black would look nice.
T-Rex 05-29-2003, 08:20 PM koenig looks like a batmobile :D
zenon 05-30-2003, 01:07 AM now that I've checked back on this thread a few times I love both looks. The AC is more of a subtle autoban-nut look while the koenig is an over-the-top ferarri eater V12 supercar look.
I can go either way now.:)
sirtiger 05-30-2003, 12:02 PM All I can say is WOW!!!!! :buttrock
bimmer ///M3 06-04-2003, 05:16 PM God, I love the 8 series!!!!
By far one of the best looking cars ever built!!
gra8fuldd 06-19-2003, 07:10 PM Can someone please post or email/PM me the website for Koenig's products?
Can Koenig products be gotten in the USA??
I am looking for a 3.64 LSD differential that will fit my '95 840ci
Anybody know of one?? If so ... get in touch with me ASAP!
Thank you in advance.
TerryY 07-02-2003, 10:33 PM Supposedly e32 V12 differentials from about '91 work with out much hassle.
735 differentials DO NOT. The back cover bolt pattern is different.
http://bmwe31.com/Modifications.htm
Has a section on what works and how to do it.
Koala Motorsports does Quaife units which ar supposed to be better than the BMW limited slip. But Pricey!
Try the autowreckers like Vines Automotive or Bavarian auto recycling.

Terry
gra8fuldd 07-03-2003, 04:36 AM Terry: Thank you!
Have you done any modification or changes to your 840ci?
I bought mine NEW in '95 and I'm just now thinking about making it have a little more POW!
That's what happens after you drive an M5 for a couple of weeks!
TerryY 07-03-2003, 09:50 AM Currently it is pretty much like I bought it. The wheels, curb rash and all, were done by the previous owner.
The car is chipped--Dinan.
I am working toward doing a measurable comparison between the Dinan and a chip I sourced from Europe. Seat of the pants reaction is in favor of the Euro chip. Even makes the engine sound way more agressive!
I would consider lowering it but it already is just barely higher than the parking lot bumps.
I have a 3.64 ls differential in the garage but the bolt pattern on the back cover is different so I will have to buy another someday.
Pictures of mine are in " Our Rides" It should look pretty much like yours.
Terry
zenon 07-03-2003, 07:09 PM having both an M5 and an 8, how much roomier do you find the 5 series to be?
TerryY 07-04-2003, 01:22 AM Not being the one asked, I'll answer anyway.
Last week at the dealer I sat in both a 3 and a 5 after driving the 8 over.
The cockpit of the 3 and the 8 have the same feeling of closeness, a more personal space. The 5 feels larger and more spacious when you move to it.
My e32 740 then feels very open and even more spacious.
But they all seem to share a common comfortableness.
But only the 8 draws everyone in the showroom to the windows when they park it outside!

gra8fuldd 07-04-2003, 05:44 PM Terry:
I find quite funny that the poorest selling BMW in history is NOW
the largest "Eye-Magnet" in the BMW family.
I know that whenever I park my 840ci anywhere in public ...
It always gathers a crowd.
TerryY 07-05-2003, 02:48 AM Given the production numbers, I don't think it was intended to ever be a "Best Seller".
The total number imported is about the same as the number of e65 745's that they import in a year.
Even in the first years there weren't enough built to make a dent in real real sales figures.
Rich mans toy--a true niche market!!
Now I need an M1 to be in really rarified territory!!
Wouldn't trade the 8 for one though.
Terry
TerryY 07-05-2003, 02:51 AM By the way it is the Silver that does it!!
If you don't have wheels with a fairly large offset you should have!
Terry
TwinRotor/Turbo 07-29-2003, 05:51 PM Man I love the 8 series, I honestly consider it the few European cars with personality. Great pics and amazing cars :).
TerryY 05-10-2004, 09:55 PM Just bumping some picture threads back into the current thread window.
gra8fuldd 05-10-2004, 11:06 PM Good thinking Terry.
We ALL need a good bump once in a while! :redspot
Terry ... Have you run across or happen to know anyone who wants to sell
an LSD 3.64 Differential (The Gearing is there abouts) for an '95 840ci?
I'd also like to hear MORE about your experience with the Euro Chip.
It sounds promising.
I was seriously considering getting the Dinan Chip after a lengthy conversation with Wayne over at Powerchip who said that PC did NOT have any software for my car that would make a noticable difference in the performance and power of the car. I also asked him about software for the tranny and the answer was the same ... NO!
TerryY 05-11-2004, 09:08 AM Hi
I'm waiting to put in my 3.64 until the K-Bars come in. They seem to be the hot item at the moment.
The chip writer on the chip that I use claims 320hp on the 4.0 V8.
My 840 had a Dinan in it when I bought it. When I changed the chip a passenger asked "JC what did you do to the car!!!" after a 60 to 95 run. He had been there the day before for the same run in the same place with the Dinan chip installed.
Re-maps it far enough that the intake air has a completely different sound.
It works up to some early 95 build dates.
gra8fuldd 05-13-2004, 04:08 AM Sounds Good ... My '95 is a 10/94 build date.
How do I go about seeing if it'll work on mine?
Any good words on suspension upgrades? i.e. rear swaybar maybe?
TerryY 05-13-2004, 09:05 AM You need to check the ECU to make sure that it has 404 as the last 4 numbers- it should with that build date.
I have a spare chip for the 840 and some sets for the 850 too that I could be persuaded to part with for what I paid. I'll take them back too if it isn't better.
gra8fuldd 05-14-2004, 03:36 AM Terry ...
Sounds Good.
WHERE do I look to check and find that ECU number?
You know ... The last 4 digits of 404.
I don't think that I'd have much use for the chips for an 850 ... BUT ... the one that you have for the 840 sounds like it could work out.
Are you using the identical chip in your car?
Any thoughts or ideas on suspension?
TerryY 05-14-2004, 10:24 AM I have been using the identical chip in my 840 for a year now.
There is a large black plastic cover just in front of the passenger side firewall in the engine compartment. There are 4 phillips head screws holding the cover on. Inside you will find 2 computers-the rear one should be the ECU with the numbers on it.
This will give you an idea of what it takes to change a chip. With the tools at hand the first time will take about a half hour. The instructions are for an 850. The 840 only has 1 chip instead of the 3 in the instructions.

gra8fuldd 05-14-2004, 01:54 PM Terry:
Thankn you ... I'll be checking this out over the next few days.
Say ... BTW ... Where are you getting your K-Bars (Sway Bars) from?
Are you BOTH ... front and rear ... OR .... ?
What is involved ... are they easily ordered or ...?? Seemingly ... like almost everything with my 8-series ... It's all very difficult, very time consuming and I spend and awful amount of time waiting.
I guess that part of the thrill!!
TerryY 05-14-2004, 08:27 PM This is the only place to get K-bars.
http://bmwe31.com/
Greg is currently building a run that is sold out. You may be able to get on his waiting list though. Don't worry about the non delivery notice you will get if you email him. He gets it anyway.
They come as a set with adjustable end links as an option. They are designed around providing the perfectly balanced car in combination with K-mac camber plates, H&R springs and Bilstien shocks and struts.
I am just waiting on the bars, everything else is in except the 3.64 differential that will go in when the bars are installed.
Waiting for good things seems to be the normal status!!
gra8fuldd 05-18-2004, 10:11 PM Terry:
Any idea on what would a decent price for Bilstein Sport Struts for our 840?
How about for a set of H&R Sport Springs??
What do you have on your car??
TerryY 05-18-2004, 10:40 PM Hi
As far as the struts you need to just shop around. Zygmunts was mentioned
Someone said that these guys got them an excellent price on H&R springs. http://www.morepowerracing.com/
I have a set of Dinan springs in the garage and H&Rs on the car.
wdager 05-19-2004, 10:05 PM Terry..
Your posts are so GREAT.. I love the look of the AC.. wouldn't mind upgrading mine.. but the bank account is finite.. unfortunately.. time will take care of that.. Do you have a link to where we may find the AC upgrades?
You have great knowledge oh wise one.. I thank you for that.. I'll be asking more questions as I venture on the path of the ultimate 8.. (well.. in my eyes.. )
Thanks for all your input..
TerryY 05-20-2004, 12:40 AM Unfortunatly Schnitzer seems to have abandoned us on their website.
http://www.ac-schnitzer.de/englisch/index.html
There just aren't enough of us!!
wdager 05-20-2004, 10:12 PM Yeah.. thanks for the website.. but I agree.. we are abandoned.. I like the look of the silver 8 in your pics.. would fit in nicely with mine.. Thanks again..
TerryY 05-20-2004, 11:19 PM My poor baby is in the process of getting new shoes. Unfortunately the front ones are on back-order at Tire Rack.
Putting 265/35-18s on the front. The 285/65-18s are already on the back.
Installing Goodyear F1s.
Had a few people ask about them in a "Wow" kind of way.
gra8fuldd 05-21-2004, 04:07 AM Terry:
I'm only on my 2nd set of Conti's Sport Contacts. I still have about 7/32 left on them ... Otherwise I'd probably try the Goodyears. At this rate ... My Beast will need shoes before my 840ci. Those Conti's really are good ... No ... great wearing tire!
mattjw916 05-22-2004, 05:34 PM man those Koenig mods are sick :buttrock
TerryY 05-22-2004, 06:23 PM Another Koeinig view
TerryY 05-22-2004, 06:24 PM And yet another
gra8fuldd 05-22-2004, 08:11 PM Terry:
On your '95 Arctic Silver ...
Are those LM's from BBS Corporation or from BBS-Motorsport?
I didn't know you also had a RED Koenig 8-Series ... Very Nice! ;)
TerryY 05-23-2004, 01:16 AM The red Koenig is just a picture I ran across. I seem to be the picture miester here.
The wheels are from OZ racing They are Nova type and have been discontinued.
