View Full Version : Exhaust Smoke at Startup?

While moving my car this AM, I noticed a fair amount of moderately dark, smelly smoke at cold startup. I normally do not notice any smoke because I get in and drive away. In this case, I was just moving the car out of the garage and when I got out, it was very noticeable.

Is this normal? Is this an indicator of problems to come? I normally go through about 1 qt of oil per 5,000 miles, which appears to be slightly above norm. I have no driveability issues and there are no warning lights or codes coming up.

Just wondering if there is anything I can do to nip this potential issue in the bud. Thanx

possible cases are:
1. catalytic converters are died
2. if it is dark enough, then most likely oil is burning
3. wrong A/F (air/fuel) because of MAF
