Hi all! Newbie here. I am buying a 2006 530Xi, which is still under factory warranty. What I would like to know is whether it is possible to extend the original warranty to the 100k miles under the original terms of the factory warranty?

I have searched this forum, but came up empty. I would prefer to have details, like whether everything is REALLY covered by the extended warranty or is it just an aftermarket warranty with a BMW name slapped on it? Would the Navi and other electronics be covered if I were to get the warranty extended? What the costs are?

Has anyone here done this type of thing before? Any info is appreciated and I thank you in advance for taking the time to help me out on this one!

You'll have to get a third party warranty since you're not the original owner. If the BMW dealer is selling the warranty I imagine it covers almost as much as the original warranty.
Just be sure to read the contract !

I don't see how it would not be possible to extend the original warranty, since it is transferrable, but I guess, I will have to check with a few dealers to be sure...

ok, I've been humbled and you stand absolutely correct - there is no way to extend the factory warranty, unless you're the original owner. Period. That's what I've been told by BMW Dealership here in NYC today.

They would, however, be happy to extend my service plan by 2 years or up to 100k miles - whichever comes first - as long as I'm willing to part with about $1995 of my hard-earned greennies. Sounds on the high end for an extenion, doesn't it? Or is this normal for new BMW owners to have this type of sticker shock from everything associated with their cars?

PS any recommendations on an aftermarket policy? I know that the most important thing to look for is re-insurance and non-payment complaints, anyone had any good/bad experiences with their E60's, when it comes to aftermarket warranties?

Just remember it's all a game.........my 06 M5 had 22,000 miles.......and I just bought a 6 year 100,000 mile warranty...for $4200...now, they started out asking $5000......so remember they ARE negociatable...and you can buy one from ANY dealer in the country.....so shop around..I used Crevier BMW in Santa Ana CA, they are local to me and when I told them I could get the same warranty for $4200 at another dealer they matched it without even asking any details.....good thing since it wasn't true.....

its kinda too late to buy a CPO - already got this car. The question, I guess is whether to keep it and chance it with an aftermarket warranty or to try and sell it with a minimal loss and get a different car. I've been having some dirty fantasies about a 335 Coupe these days anyway...

BTW, I really do appreciate everyone chipping in on this one - the more opinions, the better, ya'll know...
