i've got a good amount of trunk moisture. and on rainy days i can hear water splashing around in my trunk lid. i believe its the emblem/spoiler on the lid thats letting in the moisture. i want to take this off and put some sealer on it. is this a good idea/easy to do and what type of sealer should i use?
thanks

very common problem. From your signature I can't tell which kind of spoiler you have on your trunk lid, but in case it is the later style which is screwed on the water enters through those holes. Normally these screws are corroded and there is only one way to get them out - drill them. The counterpart of these screws will just keep turning in the spoiler if you try to unscrew them.
The trunk lid itself has two small drain holes at the corners towards the rear window which may be plugged. Take out those plugs and drain the lid first of all.
I would (once the spoiler is removed) seal the mounting holes and just glue the spoiler back on with for example "window glue" (no idea what that stuff is called), i.e. the stuff they use to mount wind shields on more modern cars like E32, E34 and so on.

I use the gray plumber's putty to seal the screw holes for the spoilers. Even after many years it will stay pliable and will seal leaks. Using adhesive as mentioned is also a good idea to secure the spoiler.
