Hey Guys,

I am a new owner of a beautiful 2005 545i with sat prep and other stuff :), but anyway I live in Seattle and looking to install the sirius satellite module. I called BMW of Bellevue and they want $1000 for the parts and install ( $595 for the module and 4 hours of labor) WTF :o

Then I called a dealership in Fife and they wanted $800 ( $595 for the module and 3 hours of labor) WTF :o

Is this normal price for 2008? or do I need to see about doing the install myself?
\
Any reccomendations where to buy parts from would be appreciated.

Yep, this is normal BMW Stealership up-tick!

The unit should cost ya somewhere around the price you quoted but the labor is not 4 hours!!

But then again... nah, just joking. Try another dealership.

Just Install It Yourself. The Reprogramming That Needs To Be Done Is Covered Under Your Warr And Is Done For Free By The Dealer.

If I install it myself, do I tell the dealer that it is there but not recognizing it? I am not sure how this would be covered under warranty if it is a new part..

coincidentally, i just asked about this for my 2005 m3.. same quote 595 for the unit + antenna kit and 2-4 hours labor. 700-900$

apparently if you have some sort of phone antenna, 2 hours of the labor is moving the antenna down to the bumper so the sirius antenna can go in the shark fin.

anyways, i'm holding off for now, unless there is a more cost effective way to do this.

Update:

I just got a qoute from a online dealer for $400 for the Kit. I think I will be buying the kit and doing the install, AlsoI am going to see if I can get the dealer to program it for during my next check up.
