Hi, I am interested in purchasing a 5 series, 97 or newer. As of right now I have a price cap of $9000. The reason for considering the 5 series is that I have a family and still want something sports oriented. I also would like something fairly reliable. I am mechanically inclined, and am half owner of CJ-Motorsports. I am new to This forum but I am active on many forums. Hopefully I can be a help to this community as well.

I am looking for advice on what models and years I should be looking for.

Thanks in advance,
Brandon

I would look at the 00-01 models, but for 9k you probably won't find one. Please get a 540i and not a 528i.

I have an absolutely pristine 2000 528i that I will be selling soon because I am buying a 335i. It only has 62,800 miles and is like new and fully documented in every way.

It is anthracite metallic over gray leather, has steptronic, premium package, cold weather package, shade package, Style 5 wheels (which are awesome and unblemished), and a set of Dunlop snows on AR1 wheels for winter duty. Oh yeah, forgot it also has 2001+ style headlights and tailights and M5 kidney grilles. I upgraded those after I got the car 5 years ago because I like the look a lot better. That cost me a pretty penny!

It is probably one of the nicest 6-cylinder E39's around, I plan to offer it at $14,995 and see what happens. That price isn't firm but if all I can get is $9000 I will keep it as a lawn ornament.

Here's a picture with the original lights....

Will it be worth the extra cost for a lower miles one, than say one with 120K?

These cars can last a long time with proper care. However I would always prefer a car with as low of miles as I can find, in the best condition I can find. Lower miles is not a guarantee that things won't go wrong, but I think it greatly improves the odds.

I can vouch for Slow's car and his post - If you talk to ///Meisterbrau - he had an E34 Touring. Thing was a money pit - nothing but problems. He finally got rid of (just posted about it)

While no guaranty, I would not hesitiate to get a car from Slow. He is on top his cars and extremely meticulous (sp)

If I had the cash, I'd get it. Then I'd have the car that matches my SN.

Ah well. :(
