All of my microfiber clothes are dirty and was planning on waxing my car and have a bunch of old shirts i dont wear anymore. Are these safe to buff with?

I'd say wash the microfiber cloths. Old t-shirts may be a little on the rough side. Microfibers can be washed.

The problem isn't that they aren't soft enough, rather that they have no nap. Having no nap means all dirt and debrees have no where to be trapped but right against the paint, meaning it is a surefire way to scratch it.

If he's waxing then all the dirt should be removed already. That says nothing for the ability to remove wax, but if it's clean the dirt shouldn't matter.

I think that depends on whether he claybarred or not. You're right - there shouldn't be any dirt, but there is a good chance that there could be. Even if he's doing it outside, dust will inevitably get to the car before he waxes it all, which can also be ground into the paint.

The only thing I use old tshirts on is wheels and the engine. I just would not want to take a chance.

If there's dirt then he shouldn't be waxing. By nature you have to rub wax on...you see where this is going.;)

I do understand what you're saying though.
