So I've had a pretty productive 18 hours or so. I left CMT's house at noonish and headed for the shop. I had a couple projects for the day, I just didn't realize it would take so long. I still haven't finished and I haven't gone home. I AM, however, very tired.

The projects? Well, I'll get around to uploading pics when I'm not so wasted, but basically I have too many cars around here, and I had too much rust on my DD 535. With the help of Dyetrying91 I got deep into stripping the white 525. I would have had to put the car back together enough to roll it out of the shop if he hadn't come up to help. While he was doing that I was cutting out the huge strip of rust on my passenger's side door jam. I cut the same part out of the white car and welded it in. Sure, I could have fiberglassed it, or filled it with bondo or something, but I had the perfect solution. Drill the spot welds, cut some metal, make it line up, weld in place. I ground some of the welds a little too deep, I'll need a tiny bit of filler, but this piece is solid. I'm happy, especially considering I don't do body work.

That rust was the big hold up on the work on my car last fall. I got so down thinking about having to do all that work that I just didn't bother. Let me say, it was a major chore.

My big problems now are the wheel arch and the gas door ... hole? I guess filler neck upper mount maybe? I may have to cut that out and weld it in, I'm certainly going to have to do it to the passenger's side rear wheel arch. It's gone. As in rotted away. At least the wheel arch should be an easy fix.

Funniest part of the day? When I had the old section cut out and a big hole in the car. I blew/vacuumed out all the crap that was in there, then shot some paint for good measure. Maybe a bit more than some, but not a whole lot. Let's just say it's not particularly well ventilated inside that body hole. I put the new section in to line it up, laid two tack welds in... started the third and I guess it was hot enough of a bead that it set off the paint accellerant and vapors. Twice. The first poomf burned off all the o2, then it relit and did it again.

Moral of the story? Hell, I don't know, it's 5:45am and I should be in bed. That's moral enough.

Ah, I'm disappointed. No run ins with local toothless crack-ho's, or berating of other clueless drivers. This episode of swap driver will end up on the cutting room floor. :stickoutt

If it makes you feel better, I was pushing the carcass of the white car outside, and decided to stack its tires next to the shop. Didn't know one was down to the belts... I now have a nice superglued wound on my right pointer finger.

If it makes you feel any better, I had absolutely no idea what the hell I was doing. But apparently I did alright.

It's enevitable, still amazed that I rarely see him around town.
