Dude, read your manual or do a search. All BMW's with a temp gauge dings at 37F ambient air temperature as a warning that the road surface temperature might be at 32F or below. IOW, possible black ice, particularly in shady areas or bridge decks. In fact, other manufacturers also use 37F as the warning temp. BlackSapphire 03-23-2008, 01:05 PM :dunno ive never heard of the ding before. my shit always says -40F outside. Sounds like you ripped your ambient temp sensor off of the bottom of your car. Either that or it's bad (internally open). fragzem 03-23-2008, 01:52 PM its not unnecessary. its good to be reminded "hey, ice might be forming" gumbi4u 03-23-2008, 01:58 PM Wow thanks for the chopper 4 exclusive. Captain Morgan 03-23-2008, 09:04 PM Sounds like you ripped your ambient temp sensor off of the bottom of your car. Either that or it's bad (internally open). I didnt rip anything off, its been that way since the day I test drove it. and if BMW put the sensor on the bottom of the car, then it deserves to be ripped off for such a stupid design. every other automaker puts it behind the grills. either way, isnt this another "common problem" for BMWs anyway? apache5 03-23-2008, 09:32 PM at least i know not to be a comedian.. lol and my car dings every time it hits 37 and last night it was driving me crazy because it went above, and then below and i kept hearing the ding.. i would go crazy if it was at 40 cuz that will take up more of the year. mine too. caught the joke! Invest 03-23-2008, 10:05 PM I didnt rip anything off, its been that way since the day I test drove it. and if BMW put the sensor on the bottom of the car, then it deserves to be ripped off for such a stupid design. every other automaker puts it behind the grills. either way, isnt this another "common problem" for BMWs anyway? It's not a common problem for one to break, but it can happen. Yours is bad and needs to be replaced. -40 is the read out when the sensor doesn't give a fk anymore. The ding at 37 deg. is because air passing under bridges can form ice on the cooler surface above. 37 degrees is cold enough to cause this, therefore you get a ding. Morals 03-23-2008, 10:24 PM hahaha, funny to see the responses to threads like this... on the one hand, you have the fail boat type responses....(more like mine would be)... on the other, you have the dweebs that feel the need to explain the 37 degree ding as if it was a huge revelation (and after it's already been explained) Love the "You Frail" FP5241 03-23-2008, 10:28 PM hahaha, funny to see the responses to threads like this... on the one hand, you have the fail boat type responses....(more like mine would be)... on the other, you have the dweebs that feel the need to explain the 37 degree ding as if it was a huge revelation (and after it's already been explained) Love the "You Frail" JOO FRAIL..... ;) Morals 03-23-2008, 10:37 PM JOO FRAIL..... ;) ha, tru...tru even better Dario528i 03-23-2008, 10:43 PM Lmao :alright this whole thread is FTWMLFDSC? mookish 03-23-2008, 11:09 PM I hate that ding, everytime I hear it my heart drops and I think "oh shit, what broke now?"
