I figured this would be a good place to ask, what are your thoughts/opinions about the E60 (hopefully backed with some kind of knowledge/info) ?

My dad is looking at getting one, we test drove a 2004 530i yesterday in auto, which isn't going to cut it. I think he's looking for 2005 530i manual. Anyway, he wanted me to check out what people think of them. Thanks.

You are likely in the wrong forum for that question. I would do some reading in the E60 sub forum and learn a bit about the cars reliability

Actually, I figured I would get a lot of positive info from the E60 forum, and I'm more looking for the opinions of those who don't own them necessarily. I wanted the perspective of E34'ers since that is the car that turned my dad on to the 5 series.

You could build a clone of Jon's turbo 5.

E60's are awesome cars. they handle very well and every day i think about getting one lol. mostly a 535 to go along with the current 535 i already have that would be cool

If he's set on a 530i, make sure he gets one when they switched to the newer more powerful engine. I think it's something like 230hp for the old one vs 260hp for the '06+.

255 for the '06, but completely different engine, N52 vs. M54.

If he's considering an '04 there were a few updates to the late '04s. Check out www.bimmerfest.com, very active E60 section. There's also an E60 forum out there...

The '04 and '05 530i's had the M54 engine with 225hp (the same as in the E39 530i), the '06 and '07 had the N54 with 255hp.

I've driven an '06 530xi Touring and 550i Sport, they're really nice cars. I still like the E39 interior better, but the E60 is a fine, capable car.

e34s = best 5 series ever. vs the e60 = easily depreciated, and unexpectable problems

if your gonna get a e60, its best you just keep it as a standard daily driver. we got beasts.
but its all determined by opinion, so its your choice.
