I need help replacing the bearings in my 1989 525i differentail.
Anyone that can show me how to do this!

Which bearings. Input shaft, output shaft? See pictures

What are the symptoms. Rebuilding a differential is more than your regular oil change. Here's a couple of links to diff rebuilds.

Thanks for the info. I took it apart and the input inner bearing is broken and the others have to much play. Hey thanks again!

Good luck. I'm no diff rebuilder but from what I've read they are not that bad as long as you have bearing pullers, press and an understanding of how to preload the input shaft nut with a new crush washer. Here's one more link for you.

I mark the input nut. For ref. do you know the preload for this nut.

I would just swap the diffs - too much time, cost and risk on the preload issue.
My son is running a 4.10 LS on his 89 525iM and it makes a big difference for staying on cam (3.91 would also be an improvement)

No clue. Someone with the BMW TIS should be able to look it up. Might be worth while asking a reputable tranny shop (if there is such a thing) how to do this correctly.

Last I checked, he was still driving on the diff, too!
