View Full Version : Wanted: E34 Great Lakes Area
juiicr 03-23-2008, 03:21 AM I've been looking a while for an E34 locally and with no luck. So I figured id ask around here. I would prefer a 535 but a 525 is fine as long as its not a m20. No structural rust, I'm not looking to spend anymore than 3.5grand, Also 5 speed is a must. I live in Ann Arbor MI and i really need something close by. Thanks for looking.
mrsharp 03-23-2008, 08:42 AM Bump for a good buyer.
Hi.
Call Chris at BodyWerks in Detroit. He has e34s in spades and if he doesn't have one that fits your needs in stock, his shop has the resources to turn one into a 5 speed, though maybe not at $3,500.

I saw this yesterday, you might be able to lowball him... It looks really clean, I just realized its a 530 though, hope you don't mind. I would be all over this if I had some money! Not quite sure where Bay City is though, probably somewhere really far North and may be a little out of your way.
mrnvgtr 03-27-2008, 11:20 PM Well, I don't know who's got it mixed up, but that's either a 540i or the dude just posted some random photos of a 5 series and selected the wrong engine.
Looks like a V8 in there to me. Might be 3.0, might be 4.0, only Buddha knows until you step on it.
To me, a low $/high miles BMW 3.0 V8 is about the worst combination available. All the added hassle/expense of a OHC V8, with none of the power!
I forgot- Chris at BodyWerks in Detroit= 313-493-8877.
Oh, and Come On! Who hasn't heard of the Bay City Rollers!?!?

Huh? Its pretty obvious what it has before you step on it, and BMW never made a 3.0 liter V8. Its either a 2.5, 2.8, 3.0 L inline-6 or a 4.0 L V8. Either the photos are wrong or the seller doesn't know WTF.
[Edit]: Forgot we're talking e34 here, but anyway, they never made a 3.0 liter V8. You either see a longish inline-6 in there or a V8. I get turned off by ads like that because if the seller doesn't know what they're selling, I'd be afraid they didn't know how to take care of it either.

The 530i was around a 218 hp small displacement V8 e34 variant offered in North America for 1994 and 1995. Interesting thing was that in 1994, apparently this was the only V8 saloon available in North America with a stick shift transmission. This was a 5 speed transmission, entirely different everything from the 4.0l powered 6 speed 540i.
The 530it was the only way to get a manual transmission BMW touring in the USA (from the factory, that is).
I just heard it from the grapevine that you can pull the 3.0l (and scrap it, presumably) and drop a 4.0l with only a computer swap.
juiicr 03-28-2008, 07:27 PM Thanks for all the info guys. I'm still looking for the right car, i thought i found one but it was no longer for sale, i guess i gotta keep on lookin.

Wow, I stand corrected. I was completely wrong. Thanks for schooling me.
From Wikipedia: "The new 530i model, which was also sold in North America, was introduced in 1992. Replacing the 535i, it had new M60 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BMW_M60#M60B30), DOHC (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/DOHC) 3.0 liter V8 engine producing 215 hp (160 kW). It was also offered in a touring version."
lotucris 03-29-2008, 11:58 PM looks like a sharp car, i'd check it out. Everyone's smack about the 3.0 might be apparent, but its still a V8 w/ a 5spd, a rare car at that.
