I'm ordering a set of HID's for my friend, but don't know what bulb type it takes. Do e39's use H1's like e36's?

I believe it is a 2000 and up 530i. It has the BBS style 42's if that narrows it down.

I think the car without OEM HIDs use H7 bulbs.

Wouldn't it just be simpler to have your friend remove one of the bulbs and check? That way you would be certain.

Do the bulbs vary on all of the 5 series? I forgot to check yesterday when I saw him and it is hard to get a hold of him. I'm trying to find out now because there is an HID special for Easter today from DDM Tuning. I know for certain that it is a 2001 530i.

If it's a 2001 530 with halogen lights then your friend will need a halogen bulb, size H7

If it's a 2001 530 with the HID option, then your friend will need a xenon bulb, size D2S

How do you figure out if he has halogen or HID? Simplest way without knowing about how the electronics work is to open up the engine and look at the back of the lights. If there's a sticker with a guy getting shocked then get the HID bulbs.

Your car's f'in sick tight, btw.
