i just took my car to my local dealer in maryland for 1200 mile break-in maintenance service. when i picked up my car, i found they put 7 miles on my car. i asked the rep about that and she told me they had to do that to test out my car. i had no choice but to believe them since if anything breaks they'll pay for everything anyway. when i took my car home, i walked around my car to inspect the damage and i saw severe swirlmarks everywhere. it turned out they attempted to do me a favor by DRY wiping my entire car while my car was covered with road dust (i was planing to wash my car after the service). i'd been taking good care of my car paint and it'd been swirl free until now. i'm so mad now and i'm not sure if my zaino z-5 and buffer can fix it.

end rant

Go back and explain the situation, they ought to know better than that. Make them fix it.

There not going to fix it. But you might have a chance if you are extremely nice to them but slightly firm, just don't get angry in front of them because then no work will get done. Learned that from my brothers Chrysler Crossfire service:mad.

luckily my lil' cousin who is into car detailing told me he could fix it easily. i just need to be very cautious the next time I go there and tell them explicitly NOT to give me their high-school-chicks quality car wash and stay the f**k away from my paint.

the dealership is Russel bimmer in case you want to know.

maybe they will fix it, most dealerships have there own detail guys so it won't even cost them much

yeah Russell BMW sucks a hard donkey dcik.

One of the lot boys there was taking a rental e46 to the shell gas station on Rolling. He came flying passed me on rt.40, bouncing off the rev limiter and lined up with me at a stop light. He asked me if I wanted to race. I asked "thats not even your car, now is it?", he gave me a dumbshit look and chirped away. He then went bouncing into the gas station. Another time I saw a couple of them racing each other in BMW's that obviously wasnt theirs. Many of the people living in the apartments nearby complained about them flying down the street behind the dealership (there is a playground right there).

And that is exactly why I do my own work.... or at least stick around and supervise whoever's working on it. They love that. :D

Somewhat unrelated: Was the 1200 mile service scheduled maintenance? I have the same car, and I called VOB in Rockville yesterday to schedule an appointment. I was told I didn't need to bring it in for service until 15000 for its first oil change.

Yes. They were wrong. You need a 1200 mile service.

I just called them again, and the same obnoxious woman (I think) gave me the same answer. Perhaps I should try someone other than VOB, but it is the closest to me.

Open up your manual refer to the page, and demand to speak with her supervisor if you can't get anywhere.

I would never take my car to a dealership unless it was under warranty. My friend takes his car to the one in Crystal City, but he knows some of the mechs there. They do side work with him sometimes; lucky bastard.

Car is brand new and under warranty. The service is all "free." I just contacted the serivce department at Passport, where I bought the car, and, as I expected, they were much better. So, I'm good to go now!
