I need to remove the dashboard to work on the A/C. I just need descriptive instructions on how to remove the dashboard and i get started on the project.

I've never seen a dash removal "how-to" but here is a link to a few A/C repair procedures BCG AC Page (http://normgrills.net/bcg/Heat_%26_AC_FAQ.html)

i'm not sure how they did it back in the day but on the e36...

there's 3 bolts under the defrost vents, after they pop off
and a bolt on each side of the dash where the dash and underdash meet

Removal was not too bad, if I remember right.

Remove the center console
Remove the dash cluster
Remove the A/C control panel
Remove the glove box
Dash is held in by 2 brackets to the left and right A-pillar, remove the two nuts. If I remember right there are a couple of brackets above the center console area you need to disconnect. Also you have to remove the cluster light wiring harness, the seat belt warning light harness and glove box light.
Lift the dash evenly up and pull away from the windshield, the front edge is clipped into the fire wall. You have access to all the A/C components now, I would recommend that you replace all the foam seals and damper covers, inspect the evaporator and replace the expansion valve. This is also a great time for the heater valve.

Reverse procedure for assembly:lol:lol:lol! The real problem is looking all the clips into the firewall. You have to angle the dash up a little bit and slide them in, it might help to remove the upper A-pillar trim. I was lucky that I had the windshield out, almost impossible to get all the clips without a spotter from the top.

This might be a good time to fresh up the dash...

Do you have to remove the dash to work on the A/C, or can you just remove the center console?

Really depends what you are planning on doing...
You can get to the evaporator and the expansion valve by just removing the center console. If you are planning on inspecting the flaps and seal you have to remove the dash to get to everything.

Removing the dash also gives you the opportunity for some extensive clean-up and detailing, the process looks more intimidating then it is.

Yes, it not that hard to remove the dash, there are bolts behind some buttons in the center of the dash. I remove one from my donor car (86) that will go into my 88.
