This is an airbag car with the good knee bolster.
192k Miles Diamantschwartz with gray interior.
Car has a poorly repaired left quarter panel and DOT-R replaced left fender.
All other body panels are original and in pretty good shape.
Car has some rust starting around the front windshield but doesn't seem to be too bad.
Rust around tag lights and tag screw holes. Aroung the lights isn't too bad but the screw holes are pretty crunchy. Underside of the car is in great shape and has intact undercoating. No rust to speak of.
Interior is in excellent shape with the exception of the driver's seat which has a worn left shoulder bolster. Everything works minus the A/C. The compressor cycles but didn't seem to be getting too cold.
Suspension seems to be pretty solid as do the brakes. Brand new tires. Braided brake lines.
Engine runs strong and it must be chipped. I found a stock chip in the glove box. I have no idea what kind of chip is currently in the ECU but it pulls pretty good.
No pics as of yet but I will take some shortly.
The price of these cars is going up, get in one while you can.
Thanks,
Jay

no big deal. actually kinda good thing lol cuz otherwise i wouldnt have gotten the one i have now.
easymoney 03-23-2008, 07:57 PM Personaly, I wouldnt pay that much for the car. It was just driven by the previous owner(s). It wasnt taken care of as shown by it's external appearance and we dont know how sound the engine is. Bodywork and upholstery would be about a Grand (at least). If you want to make the car look better you will need a complete paint job (at least $3500). On and on and on. Overall, I would say you have to invest at least $7000 to make it look the car you really want. Is it worth it? Perhaps, depending on the person who's buying it. It would be a lot less headache if you will buy one that's that all you have to do is drive and not worry about having all these things fixed.
DrLivingston 03-23-2008, 08:49 PM IMHO I would maybe lower the price and post on S14 and hope a Cali guy will wanna let her legs loose and track her. ( in cali they are way more $$ and Ive seen shells go for 4-6 k ) There is a lot of rust which you made an honest point in showing but if thats the surface I can't imagine the wheel wells and under carriage parts. To bring it to even Daily or semi show would take way more than a lot would be willing. Good luck with the sale.
jayzc529 03-24-2008, 09:30 AM Thanks for the advice although I am not really looking for any. Any serious buyer is welcome to come see and possibly drive the car in person. It runs great and I have nothing to hide.
Thanks,
Jay

Hell. I'd love to know. I can't even THINK of affording a nice e30m3. There's one in decent shape on Craigslist (portland) 1990, 79k, but the asking price is $18,500. I can't pay half of that, lol.
If I could even save the scratch for a fixer-upper I'd do it in a heartbeat because the prices keep going up.. Even since I've got into BMWs the price of an e30m3 has went up by at least a third...
My uncle was lucky enough to get one at auction quite a few years ago (late 90s) and all he had to replace was the front left fender and the tires.
Let's just say I hope I get that lucky someday. haha.
sbblowz 03-25-2008, 04:35 AM i got mine for 9k. it needs some electrical issues sorted out though.
jayzc529 03-25-2008, 10:16 AM I am an ex-car dealer and I still have ties to the industry. Whenever there is an old unique Bimmer in the area I usually find out about it.
This is probably the 10th E30 M3 i've had and i'm still lookin'.

Is it hard to find a car in decent/running condition for under 9? I'm a mechanically inclined DIY kind of guy.. Mechanical and interior isn't too hard... Rust on the body is another story. Major bodywork/sheet metal replacement on the body would be something I'd have to have a shop do, as well as painting (though I can paint.) Basically I'm asking "Can I get a running car that needs work for less than 8k or 9k?"

Are there a lot on the east coast? I don't see many up here in the PNW. There are a few around, but most which are for sale are up at a dealership in seattle. Either way they're a bit. And really rare. Most I ever see for sale are on the internet.
How often do they come up for insurance/repo auction? I'd imagine very seldom, due to the extremely small number of cars. I suppose if I ever go thru with becoming a certified technician I might see a few more working in a bmw shop... I just don't want to make a job out of something I enjoy in a leisurely way.
What particular M3 are you looking for, anyway?
Sorry about hogging the thread. I'll stop posting this off topic stuff if you'd like.
EDIT: I see you have a Diesel 5 series as well... How hard is it to come across a diesel BMW/motor? I'd love to try a veg oil/bio-diesel conversion on an e30 or even an e28. I've never seen a diesel car in person tho.
DrLivingston 03-26-2008, 12:03 AM you should get your own lil business goin then Jay :) Like that Enthusiast Auto Group...deal with only hard to come by BMW's

I got mine for well below market with 103,xxx on the clock Im the third owner and it was in storage for ten years..i offered him KBB and he took it. So keep an eye out.
There are more on the East than I have seen on the West as a whole...it seems there are a lot in the New England....Florida and many in Texas...West Coast seems to be all Cali.
And these cars WILL become a job no matter what the condition is lol
Good Luck
M-technik-3 03-26-2008, 12:55 PM I paid 3.5K for mine in DC so they are out there. Mine has 65K mor one the clock but runs good. At the mileage point if the S14 blew Up I was gonna put an S50 combo in it and be happy. But it continues to run smoothly so I'm happy. Paint on mine is very tired and someone attempted to respray it at Macco.....badly.

You can still find these cars. They are just getting few and far between.
As far as 524td's go, you will find more E30 M3's around than you will td's. They are pretty reliable, but watch out for problems with the head. They tend to crack if they are overheated.
M3 still available.
Mthrizzle 03-29-2008, 06:19 PM should have bought your silver one !!!
still working on mine ..good luck..just need a roller:deadhorse:
least acceptable ?
jayzc529 03-31-2008, 05:09 PM The price is always negotiable but not by much. The car really is solid. I got it MD State inspected and all it needs is a control arm and an alignment.
Thanks,
Jay
bmwpower 04-01-2008, 12:09 AM Judging from the prices I've just seen on S14.net, this one seems to be priced right.

you have to remember S14 is a specialty site. That meaning all those guys know what they have, love and breath what they have, and anyone willing to pay top dollar and look the least amount of time will find it on S14. I love that site it's my second home now after getting mine, the guys are great and all very knowledgeable. But you have to expect an enthusiast price to reflect on an enthusiast site.
jayzc529 04-06-2008, 07:41 PM Sold!
