View Full Version : Camber Plate Options for Bilstein PSS9's? ///M3Augy 03-22-2008, 11:10 AM What are my options for camber plates with this set up? They also have special options that allow you to allow you to run different springs that are more commonly found. ///M3Augy 03-22-2008, 12:12 PM Awesome thank you. Techno99 03-22-2008, 12:59 PM Don't get KMACs. They suck. ///M3Augy 03-22-2008, 03:10 PM What about the UUC ones that understeer.com sells? ///M3Augy 03-22-2008, 03:35 PM I have Vorshlag camber plates with my PSS9's, works great! They also have special options that allow you to allow you to run different springs that are more commonly found. Did you just buy the camber plates, that is all? Or do I need some special perch to run these? Anyone, I am ready to order. ///M3Augy 03-22-2008, 05:47 PM Can I just use the perches I am running now with these camber plates? Fair 03-22-2008, 06:20 PM Did you just buy the camber plates, that is all? Or do I need some special perch to run these? Anyone, I am ready to order. This tech article helps explain more (http://www.vorshlag.com/tech_strut_spring_guide.php) but yes, our camber plates always require new upper spring perches with an integral radial bearing. This isolates the turning forces from the spherical bearing and is the way we make all of our camber plates - for BMWs, Minis, Subarus, etc. For your PSS9 set-up you will need our "OEM Style" perches for the make/model/year E36 you have made for a "14mm square shoulder, Koni style". If these are for your "1998 BMW M3/4" that means you need our 1996-1999 OEM style upper perches "Koni Style": http://www.vorshlag.com/product_info.php?cPath=1_4_37&products_id=51 They will go together like so: http://www.vorshlag.com/images/catalog/products/camberplates_exploded_14sq_oemperch.jpg Your PSS9s at Left, E46 non-M PSS9 in middle, Coilover perches on Koni shaft at Right: http://www.vorshlag.com/pictures/bilstein_E36_PSS9_strut_spring_thm.jpg (http://www.vorshlag.com/pictures/bilstein_E36_PSS9_strut_spring.jpg) http://www.vorshlag.smugmug.com/photos/248202451_A54KK-Th.jpg (http://www.vorshlag.smugmug.com/photos/248202451_A54KK-M.jpg) http://www.vorshlag.smugmug.com/photos/249501858_USa88-Ti.jpg (http://www.vorshlag.smugmug.com/photos/249501858_USa88-M.jpg) click to enlarge As Kaizen81 said, If you want to ditch the goofy tapered Bilstein "not really a coilover" spring you can upgrade to a 6" long true 60mm coilover spring from us or just about any other vendor and use our 60mm x 14mm square upper perches instead. Going to a "real" coilover spring no longer limits you to the "one size fits all" spring/rate that comes with the PSS9 kit, and also frees up more negative camber adjustment range. http://www.vorshlag.com/images/catalog/products/perches_3stockstyles_thm.jpg (http://www.vorshlag.com/images/catalog/products/perches_3stockstyles.jpg) http://www.vorshlag.com/pictures/springs_stock_vs_coilover_thm.jpg (http://www.vorshlag.com/pictures/springs_stock_vs_coilover.jpg) http://www.vorshlag.com/pictures/strut_plus_coilover_thm.jpg (http://www.vorshlag.com/pictures/strut_plus_coilover.jpg) click to enlarge The larger diameter stock style springs (which your PSS9 springs are at the top) are much larger than a 2.5" or 60mm diameter coilover spring. The larger OEM style springs limit camber travel due to space constraints inside the stock strut tower. Not as big of a deal with the 1996-1999 M3 springs, which are the smallest of the E36 styles (E36 non-M is HUGE, 1995 M3 is next smallest, 1996-99 is the smallest of the OEMs). True 60mm coilover springs come in almost an infinite number of length and rate choices and they are relatively cheap (usually $60-100 each, depending on brand and style).
